found a lpg kit for that range rover of that friend of mine at last . i have spoken to the guy that sells the stuff on the phone etc . the only thing that bothers me now is that the guy told me he is not vat registered but will still be able to provide me an invoice. DOES THIS SOUND DODGY ?
now in the worst case scenario ,lets say the kit was faulty etc . WILL I BE ABLE TO GIVE THIS KIT BACK
what do you people think ?? this whole kit is not cheap stuff and i dont want to mess this up really |

I run a business and am not VAT registered. You only need to be VAT registered :-
Your taxable supplies, distance sales, or acquisitions are expected to exceed £58,000 in the next 30 days, or if you are already trading, and they have exceeded £58,000 in the past 12 months...
I run my business alongside my main occupation for a bit of pocket money so there's no need to be VAT registered.
However, on all my sales i provide a VAT receipt. This means that if the person purchasing from me is VAT registered then they can claim the VAT back at the end of the tax year against there tax bill. |

I'm not VAT registered either.
To be VAT registered you need a turnover of 54 grand a year.
I give receipts but don't stick VAT on them.
Iain if I stick VAT on them does that mean they can claim that back? This means I get more money if so btw! |

It depends. You should only really charge Exc VAT if you are VAT registered. I give my customers a price, say £20. But i will supply an invoice for £17.02+VAT. The product is worth £20 tho, not the £17.02. You can only claim back VAT on business purchases if you are VAT registered.
Chris - you can charge exc VAT on your labour but you have to make it clear before giving costings etc that it is Exc VAT or it becomes a whole legal issue. |

yeah cool its for Simon.
hes being an arse about paying me for the work I done to project hairdresser. Using the fact he can't claim it back etc as an excuse.
Simons VAT registered, his average turnover in in the £100k's, yet hes being arsey over a few pounds with me! |

Provide him with an invoice for the total cost then minus the VAT, then add it back on as a seperate vat amount |

hes got the car back, got it back a couple of weeks ago.
You don't expect to get handed 130 quid which goes to buy a hoover then not get anymore for all the work I did!
Mates don't do these things, or they are not supposed to!
I am trying to keep my calm about the situation. |
