hey guys
wondering if anyone has any ideas to my prob,
if I'm say coming off a roundabout turning left, putting the power down, i get a vibrating/grinding noise coming up through the body, i'm thinking either downpipe rubbing on body/steering rack bolts, although i've already adjusted this previously and this current prob sounds worse than that, and seems to effect performance, if i come off the gas a little then it's not so bad, sometimes going away, could this be driveshaft end?
Any other ideas? |

Does your car start to wonder whilst turning in a perticular direction?
If not then you can ruel out ball joints.
Can you feel your vibration through the steering wheel? (I suspect yes)
This grinding noise you hear I suspect is more a vibration. (just a nasty one, like metal on metal) and it only seems to happen under load, so I'm thinking a week mount.
when you open the throtal it tilts the engine backwards, if you have lets say a week mount on the front drivers side then the load on it will be more when turning left. This in turn with the acceleration will put more strain on the rear mount forcing it to drop more than it should, causing the down pipe to contact the rear of the compartment. Hence the vibration.
Thats what I'd be looking at first. |

So wandering to the left with a grinding noise that's worse going round corners and vibration thru the steering at high speed would indicate a ball joint? Suits me  ! I've got a ball joint to collect! |

nice one dochertya765, I will check the mounts, on what you've mentioned though I would be suprised if one mount had gone as they are all only 15 thousand miles old, I fitted a williams in her about 6 months back, although one could well have come loose perhaps,
yes it comes through the wheel, and is ONLY when i'm accelerating or under load, either in a straight line or turning left, but never turning right, does this suggest it's either drive shaft on left or mount on right?
it seems to be more from centre of dash out to the left front wheel than the right.

I'd have thought so. It's either one or the other. But I've never herd a drive shaft make a grinding noise other than when they realy break, and you'd have known about that.

I'd expect that as the rear mount is in the centre of that pannel. |

new mounts never seem to be the same as the original ones. I have a new front one on my chamade and its collapsed, done about 3k since it was fitted.
check the chassis rail by the alternator, make sure the pulley hasn;t been touchign it. |
