I was skimming through a friends very old car mag when I came across a 1.4 rt clio with a R5 GTT lump in it.

I really like my car and would like to have a better engine in it.

Would it be possible to have an R5 GTT in my R19?

or would it be easier and cost less to have the 1.8 16v in mine?

Thanks

yes you can stick the gtt lump in.

best to buy a 19 16V, better car all round, better engine and faster.

Sure you can tune the gtt lump but its archaic and crap, numbers don't mean everything.

Get a 19 16V for a couple of hundred quid.

Cool, cheers Chris

Would prima racing/k-tec be able to do a conversion?

What do I need from the donor car. Lump, ECU, wiring loom...?

I know of two valvers so I can have either.

I really wwant to keep my car, that's why I don't want to just get a new car.

I have new lowered suspension and wheels, bit and bobs all over.

Don't want to go through buying it all again.

Well what would it cost to have mine turned into a 1.8?

Can't ever find any costs anywhere.

I mean if I were to go from mine to a 1.8 then i'd want one in the condition mine is in, body work on mine is mint no outer body rust, none on arches, usual places etc

there are no fixed costs...thats the problem...ppl want a fixed price. u have to accpet there isnt one...

if u cant do anything yourself, it will cost loads as u have to pay someone else to do everything.

if u can do everything yourself, then its just the price of the engine (eg 100) plus any sundries u wish to add, oil, new mounts etc.

whatever way you look at it your as well buying a 16V.

You need the fuel pump, rad, exhaust, suspension, brakes, engine, fuel lines and so on.

In the end you will have a car that doesn't look as good as a 16V or go/handle as well.

Price varies, I mean someone could quote you £x but job d takes y amount on time and x therefore goes up!

There so varied in price it's stupid.

A fully kitted out 16v mint condition, no milage info, £950

another 16v with 88,000 miles, again mint condition, £1500!

both of which are 100+ away, which I dont mind driving.

I'd want a 3 door (2 door with boot), as more is avalible styling wise.

you will always be better off buying a valver ,why would you want all the hassle of fitting a 16v engine in yours .

i love my black rt to bits and i will probably keep it for a long while even after getting the chamade on the road soon .

i waited for about a year for the right car to come up and bought a ph1 chamade for 80 quid with a running engine and body damage. it did not cost me more than 250 quid plus my workmanship to finish it off .

result ?????

an 80 quid car with all the electric toys and driving joys

ive done a R5 GTT engine into a 1.4 clio energy carb'd model.

Everything bolted up straight, even the driveshafts and brakes.

just had to extend the alternator wiring and a few mods to get the i/c fitting nicely. All in all a VERY easy conversion.

Ok its not as good an engine as a 16v'er but...

its ALOT easier to work on in a clio
its different
its a nicer sounding engine...ok its totally different induction i know.
theres more scope for gains on it.
Plus you can remain in the same road tax bracket Very Happy
