basically, what makes them quick? and what do they do to the 182 that isnt on the 172? |

182 has a diff exhaust manifold and very slightly diff inlet plenum.
The machining on the 182 head is slightly different as they went to different CNC or something.
ECU map is different.
The bottom end is derived from the F7R bottom end. The head is totally different though. Uses a really wild cam and then the VVT is just to back it off and make it drivable, idle properly and pass emissions. |

i had noticed it has a change in tone from around 3k, and its not just me whos noticed it. so its kind od like the vtec system? |

nothing like VTEC, the VVT activates under 2krpm.
tbh the engines shite, its years behind the vtec and other 'performance' contempories.
Back in the alpine in the 60's renault had the gordini twin cam 16V 2 litre engines pushing out 200bhp on carbs.
Not much progress. |
