as i have been driving the new car for a while now i am getting used to her habits etc ,
i mentioned about the gear selector coming off the second gear now and again and lately i discovered its doing it when the car /gearbox is cold .
does it make sense to releate this to low gearbox oil ,thus problem is there when its cold ??? |

what do you mean the selector coming off 2nd gear? The selector is a forked arrangment an dif iit come soff it will stay in 2nd all the time.
If you mean it pops out of 2nd then mine does that as well. Hold it in 2nd.
Its most fun when it pops out mid overtake. |

What causes it though Chris?
Is it purely a case of worn synchromesh or are there other attributing factors to take into account? |

fucked detent springs normally, dodgy bearings, tired synchros etc can force the gear out as well.
Speaking of gearboxes, I was reading track and race car last night, 1st time ever.
The fact these people are meant to know racing cars etc astounds me as they had a gearbox feature and had no clue at all in any way on how a gearbox operates! |

he never said that was the sole problem, he was mertely saying thats whats causign the stick to rock about. but a dodgy front mount does the same as well. |
