I have got a Kreg 3 dr 19 16v & i'm having a problem with the diff cirlip. I've had a new gearbox, clutch, clutch cable, driveshafts, track rod ends & steering rack and it still keeps popping the circlip out & i lose drive. she does exactly the same thing now as she did before i had all the work done. have you got any ideas on what else i could do as I don't want to give up on her but i don't know what else to try. I have had the same problem on one of my 19's

if you have done all of that and its still popping then time for yet another gearbox i'm afraid, get the JC5 gearbox though from the clio williams or the megane and forget about using JB3's which come on the renault 19 16v.

JC5 box will cost you about £150 but could be got cheaper if you can wait and like to shop around.
also try Paul from infinicar, he quoted me £150 on a JC5 plus shipping and he gurantees his parts too.

note, the ratios wont be exactly the same as you have now but tbh final drive wont make too much difference for you as its rare these days we can take our cars up to thier full speed.

cheers. i'll have a shop about & try who u've suggested & see whats about. i don't mind waiting to get her done as she was practicly on her death bed when i bought her. She cost me £60 to buy so i have no problem putting the money into her to get her running properly. When u say the ratios will be different is it possible to have them set up, or does it involve getting a different gearbox. I'm keen on taking her round a track one day so she can show me what she can do without the worry of blues & twos in my rear view mirror! Very Happy

again it depends on the JC5 box as that box is used on different engine sized meganes and even on the newer clio sports

but one from a 2.0 16v megane or the williams clio would be the best match, like i said it will be different but not vastly different, i dont know the exact ratios of that JC5, maybe Chris H will be able to provide those details in comparision with the JB3 used on the 19 16V.

but i know at least two of us on this forum have had probs with the jb3 diff circlip, mals the other member got lucky with his 2nd gearbox and has had no problems since changing it out where as me, i have had all sorts of problems much like you so the only way i would go is JC5 from the 2.0 litre megane or williams clio.

it is a common problem sadly, a new circlip and thrust washer can be got from renault for less than £5 but once they have gone once, they tend to go again and again and alarmingly quickly, last time i changed mine it only lasted 5 miles before popping again, hence why i gave up on the jb3 gearbox lol.

i tried putting new washer & circlip in when had new gearbox done & it still popped it out twice in 2 days! am gonna have a good search about and see if i can find jc5 gearbox & hopefully then i'll be able to drive her to her full capability. I woz told by the previous owner she has been chipped at some point in her life so pehaps a stronger gearbox is what she needs. I've put a lot of blood sweat & tears into her and it would be ashame to give up on her now. Smile

a chip wont add that much power that it needs a stronger gearbox, spesh a generic chip, for a chip to be of any real effective use it would need to done on a rolling road and mapped to your car.

its one of those things Dawn, when it goes it goes and never usually ever goes right again after.

got any pics of your 19?

we all like pics here Very Happy

not yet although i wish i'd took some when i started the project coz even i can't believe the difference! she's been completely stripped out inside & now has a white metal effect lino in instead of carpet, i've got rear leather seats to put in her but need to find some front ones, i'm picking up a new front bumper for her 2moro & i'd eventualy like to get her resprayed in pearl white with a metalic flake. As soon as i get new digi camera sorted will put some pics on for all to see. Smile

ahhh you should start a members project thread and defo take some pics of the work you are doing on it and get them posted.

it all comes in very useful for all of us who are trying to keep our 19's in tip top condition, the haynes is usually crap but once u have read and seen pics of certain jobs on these cars posted by members who have done it to 10 year old plus renaults that have rust and grime and bolts that dont want to budge and not a nice new clean one like the haynes boys, it all becomes so much more clearer.

megane JC5 box has a longer final drive, the williams is better as its basically a JB3 ratio box. 1st and 2nd are shorter though.

personannly I would get a jb1 box, shorter final drive (not much) and with 17's on them I never managed to get a clip to pop and I done some hard driving/wheel spins on em.

No point in getting a leggy box as it will be of no use at all on a track.

what car does a jb1 box come off?

I haven't really spun her up much since I've had her as I don't want to do any damage to her when circlip comes out but I'm sure she would go a treat which is why I want to get her sorted coz she does seem like she capable of having fun! I've only got 15's on her at moment but 17's is what i'd like to put on her when she's finished.

I will have a look about and see what I can find. Any suggestions where I may be good places to look?

Cheers. Smile

1.2's and 1.4's.

don't put 17's on it unless you just want to ruin the car.

someone I know has got a recon box from a renault 5 turbo. He says its the jc1 which i need. Is he right? would this box be ok. Do you have to change the flywheel and clutch or anything else to put the jc1 on?

so you recommend I stick with my 15's?

for the alloys question, yes, as there is less weight in them, and it handles alot better with the 15's even with 16's it fecks the handling and makes it sluggish

that depends on the particular alloys.

stick with the 15's

the 5 gtt box will fit, only issue is the speedo as its electric on the gtt but it should be a straight swap to the 19's cable drive, pop the leccy sender out of the gtt box (you need to pull the wire clip first) and make sure it has the plastic square drive.
