Clio 16v caliper to hub nut.

It's just a tiny bit smaller than 18mm but it's not 17mm.

Obviously it's imperial, but i dont know imperial sizes very well.

Mine are stuck solid, and an 18 is just going to round it off, need to get the exact fit if i'm going to avoid a lot of ball ache.

Anyone??

Cheers!

its 18mm.

Use a 6 sides socket on it.

have to say I use an 18mm spanner and belt it with a 2lb lump hammer, never failed. Slipped and hit me leg though

I;ve recently invested in one of those little 50w impact guns from argos etc, plugs inot the fag lighter, takes a while to wind up, but i haven't found a nut yet that it won't shift

I find a torque wrench does the job everytime, oh and it is an M18 nut not imperial. France uses the metric system not imperial Wink

One sure fire way to fuck a torque wrench up...using it as a breaker bar

Weve been through this before on here...

Quite why anyone would think a torque wrench is as good as, let alone any better, than an equivalent length breaker bar for undoing things is beyond me...

Cos it's better than a 1/2" drive rachet and as the wrench is useless as a torque wrench due to someone storing it incorrectly it is now used as a "If it gets destroyed so be it" tool. Also, it has a rather long bar on it thus giving better mechanical advatage on fairly tight nuts and bolts. Personally, I see using it as a more sensible option over whacking a non-imact tool with a 2lb lump hammer but that's just me I guess.

I use the spanner instead of the breaker bar as its only 8 inches long, I don't need to position the steerign just right and jack it up so high to get to it.

My way I can get the hub off in less than 10 mins, 15 if I have to grind the lower bolt and maybe the uppers.

I've never timed myself doing a hub removal before but now you've set the bar Chris i'm just gonna have to beat it... although the 19 isn't really a fair motor to compare with as I know all the bolts have decent heads that won't round and the bolts aren't seized cos new bolts only went in before Feb this year as are the ball joints.

I just don't see why people are taking the piss for me using a torque wrench (Specifically an old one) for removing a nut. I'm sure that a bolt at 130Nm's won't do any damage to a wrench set at per say 220Nm's

what does it matter as it only clicks when tightening, settign it to whatever won;t make a differnce, if its knackered then fair enough do what you like with it but it is abuse of a precision instrument if calibrated correctly.
