this feckin car since yesterday wont start after turned off ,i can hear the starter motor trying to turn but cant go any further and it starts up straight away after a little push .

time for a new battery or alternator ??????????? Rolling Eyes

the top connection on the starter could be a little loose. That makes it seem like the power aint gettin to it. 10 sec job if it is.

did you not ask this before last week?

Is there a heatshield on it? You can buy all the alternators and batteries and starters you like, if theres no heatshiled it will keep doing this.

Also some 16V's struggle to turn the engine over for 2 revolutions then crank away fine. This is normal in a number of them.

IOf you get another starter get the smaller 1.2/1.4 starter as it doesn't get the same problems due to it being smaller.

nope that was my problem, a combination of the engine siezing up and the starter going high resistance

no there is not a heatshield on it ,did not know there was meant to be one either . can i make a heat shield for it ???

is that a yellow cable that starter cable you are on about docs??

yellow cable? should be a thick black cable from the starter to the battery positive, then a red one from the same terminal round to the alt but red in colour then theres the white solenoid wire.

you could make a heatshield, theres enough pics ont he site of them if you look.

sorry mate can't see it to tell ya the colour.

it's the thin wire connected to the starter with a plastic covered spade conector.

the others (i think) are bolted on.

nope its a huge cable straight from the battery to a terminal, with a ring terminal on it.

heh think about it, any electronic or electric circuit is affected by heat, the hotter it is the less likely its going to work, the starter is right under the exhaust manifold so yes its gonna get hot and prolonged exposure to heat will make it fail, thats why there is a heat sheild there to protect the starter.
this heat on the starter could also be the cause of your problem when u said it would not start after a run, but when it was cold it started again.

also as been suggested check the connections on the starter, disconnect the battery first or you may get a nasty bolt from it, as it is connected direct to the battery, so if ur doing up the positive connection on the starter and the metal spanner touches the block or any form of earth, you will prolly get a shock.

The wire that goes to the solonoid is a thin white wire (as chris h said) which connects to a thin black plastic socket that goes onto the spade connector on the starter, this has a habit of working itself loose.

checked the wires nothing seems to be loose or broken ,and funny enough the car has started up straight away as it was cooled down . now i have to find a heatshield for the starter , it seriously is getting too hot in there

well they are there! the yel,low wire looks like its been put in place of the purple pressure sender wire. They can melt you see.

still having this problem ,and cant seem to be sourcing the heat shield of my black rt ,so can somebody please post up a picture of this thing so that i can see where its located and how its bolted ????????
