morning all

After just getting back after a 14 hour jouney, three different AA lorrys, over 360 miles i am looking for a shot in the dark.

I have a megane 1.6 rn s reg with siemens ECU.
the car started to cut out while driving along, then cut out totaly.
the fuel injector/fuel pump / (something else ) relay is switching in and out (ticking). the output from the ECU to the relay in also pulsing.

and help would be very useful. will be trying another ECU later.

I assume its a quick ticking? Like an indicator tick?

siezed fuel pump.

stick a halogen headlight bulb in its place, it should be a decent stable current draw. It should when you flick the ignition on light up for a second or 2 then go out, then when you try and crank it it should coem on and stay lit.

If so and no more ticking then pumps goosed.

when trying to crank over the blub just goes dim.

hmm intresting.

take the relay out and bridge it. can you hear the pump going? Or if you have the bulb in does it glow ok then?

This might be as simpel as a crank sensor problem which is seeming likely.

took relay out and bridged it. ,, nothing from pump

bridged relay, while relay in the car (on rear ) ,, pump running ALL the time.

put metre on the live of the relay ingnition off 12v to earth

put metre on white and appox 2000 ohms to earth

put light across relay ,, bright when ingnition off ,,goes dim when ingition off.

crank sensor is on the bellhousing.

anyway get it so the pumps running all the time and try and start it.

If it won't fire up, see if the rev counter moves etc. If it doesn;t fire up then crank sensor is probabl;y duff.

You checked the earths? Theres 2 round the back of the engine, which if dodgy can damage the ECU.

well depends on what you class as breakdown, if nearly blowing the clutch and the fact it stuttered and it was cutting out a few times was it breakign down then yes it was.

I sorted it though! The team was behind me with support though Laughing
