My gearbox won't go into third at all and whines and crunches when taking up the drive in all other gears.

Does it sound like it's dead? I think it is.

If it is, how much would a decent 2nd hand box be?

How long labour wise would it take to fit?

If I do it myself, how hard is it to do?

Thanks

James

Could possibly be the pedal or cable.

If the cable or pedal was knackered, wouldn't I have trouble getting it into all gears?

It's not crunching in any other gears, it's just whining in second. My original post wasn't entriely accurate.

But it's not going into third at all.

You checked the gearbox oil?

No, I haven't. Haven't noticed any leaks though.

What is the best way of checking it?

Usually if you unscrew the plastic wingnut on the front of the box and oil dribbles out then there's enough in there.

I thought that's where it was.

Just have to remove the airbox to get to it. Not much room on the Clio.

Cheers for your help.

It's definately dead. I checked the oil and that was fine. The pedal and cable have only been on the car about a year, so definately not that.

The car is making very bad metallic grinding noises in all gears, apart from 3rd, cos it won't go into that at all!

More money to shell out!!

I'm only too aware what F7 ownership is. I've had the car the past 4 years and the only thing that hasn't died is the engine.

I've probably cursed that now!!!
