Had trouble starting the 1.4 carb earlier, was on a slight incline, would start with no choke but had to hold it on the throttle otherwise it would die with or without the choke. Got it on the level groud and it ran fine, well slightly lumpy. What could be the cause?

Any tips on things that need cleaning/adjusting on these things to make em runa bit better?

Cheers

strip it out.

the hill problem was probably because the float levels wrong aloowing the fuel bowl to empty into the main jet.

Any pointers on stripping it and adjusting float levels? The haynes manual makes it all look a bit daunting..

ok had a look 2 questions. How do I get the jets out? Thinking about just taking the whole thing off and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner , might be easier. And how do I adjust the float level?

Btw, It seems to start Ok if its been left running and bit then switched off and started again.

yes you need to remove the carb, to get the jets out you turn it upside down with the air correctors out.

theres will be lots of petrol btw

Right took the carb off completley, any areas that need special attention? Its a Webber 32 TLDR carb. As you mentioned before, how do you adjust the float levels?

Cheers

Right, looking at the haynes manual it recons the gasket on the cover carb 'cover' needs to be 1.75mm away from the nearest point on the float, i presume this means the float arms, im which case mine was way out, as in about 6mm from the gasket. Does this make any sense to you chris because its not making much to me.

are you holding the carb vertically so the valves shut?

yes, so that the floats are facing upward, the carb is sitting on the 3 long rods that secures the air box.
