the car has been loosing some water for the last couple of days and i have been topping it up as i see it below the min level ,likei topped it up about a litre yesterday ,there is shit loads of pressure in the system but the top of the rad is cold and the bottom is hot ,been talking to JB about this he reckons the gasket is feckin up slowly ,oh joy
now what i cant understand is ,i start the car up for my 7-8 mile journey to work the temp goes up slowly and reaches the 1st notch on the temp gauge (a few mm below) than i park the car up.
today straight after parking the car athome ,i opened the bonnet and checked the coolant level again ,it was just by the min level on the pressure tank, touched the rad again ,top is cold bottom is hot as normal ,as i turned the pressure cap the water started emerging up so i shut the fecker and open the bleed screw on the rad , no water comes out ,undid the presure cap again some the water level went down but still no water coming off the bleed screw hole ,now whats going on in here i cant figure out ?????????
help please |

thats one conclusion, a better one I reckon is corrosion of the gasket due to shite coolant. |

looking at the amount of water being lost i think its not long before the headgasket fails
so what else is needed for the job than chris apart from the obvious head gasket of course
-new head bolts ?
-skimming the head???
-new inlet and zorst manifold gaskets???
what else |

Have you figured out where the water is going? being burnt as steam, going in oil or just leaking out the back of the head? Might not be the HG thats leaking. |

my water level doesn't drop, it rises, the rad fills with air, and only when speeds off over 110 are maintained does oil enter the water.
Assumign its not ragged then bleeding the rad will allow the level to drop back down to where its meant to sit.
All very intresting stuff.
When it does need topped up its because its left via the cap. |

have not noticed any steam coming out of the exhaust ,its very strange ,the car seems to be running perfectly fine as well ,would not a fecked gasket affect the revs etc .
shall give her a good all over check tomorrow ,well fuckin pissed off now
whats else is included or suposed to be included in a head gasket set chris ???
the bolts can be bought seperate i believe ??? heard about uprated bolts which are supposed to be stronger ,is that worth buying ???? |

my car runs perfect, temp gauge is also perfect, Neal, JB etc can verify that, it goes well as well, again they can verify that.
headgasket, camcover gasket, valve stem oil seals, inlet and exhaust manifold gasket, new cam seals.
bolts bought seperate and only use oe bolts, I wouldn't bother repolacing them unless they are dodgy looking/stretched to buggery. |

double checked everything today
opened the bleed screw first ,nothing comes out filled the expansion tank still water coming of the bleed screw ,wtf ??????
started the car up idles almost perfect ,heats up slowly ,the water paours into the expansion tank through the top pipe nicely . as both the bleed screw and expanion cap is off ,pressure is not building(btw i thought this would help air to get out)
after a while i squeze the top rad pipe and finally some water comes out of the bleed screw hole as the water comes out i put the screw back in tight.
top the water up in expansion tank and shut the cap let it heat up for a while pressure builds up .
turn the engine of and even after half an hour the water level is the same .
during this process i also noticed the top part of the radiator was hot as the bottom was colder this time .WTF is going on ???
can you please explain this chris mate ?????/
cheers |

not enough cylinder pressure is being made with it idling or just revvign it, when the engines loaded is a different matter |

thats how a radiator works.
the reason the top was hot the other day was there was only air in there no coolant. |

I didn't have mayo when mine went, did have steam tho'! Didn't have either the second time but it looks like it's a slightly different problem. Still don't understand why the head/block cracked so soon after the hg change! |
