a lot of it is very creepy and goes back to the days when victorian buildings and medical ways were pretty dark.
The Runwell Research Lab with its books etc and pics and even samples that have been left, thats just wrong. That shoudl all have been destroyed.
This site takes a lot of time to look through but its worth it.
My mum hates asylums, they give her the creeps, like she says these places caused a lot of damage to many people. They are however marvels to see, they are massive, theres a very large one near Bathgate, ever been there Roddy? |

Cool, I love that kind of stuff - don't know why, there's just something about abandoned buildings
Coincedentally I was noseying around old Killearn Hospital this morning for work, was abandoned in 1973 the site is pretty open though, it was the kind that was made up of lots of smaller buildings all very overgrown, not really that spooky a place though but quite cool none the less. |

Yeah, would be well up for that sometime.
There's a place I've seen from the train a few times just outside Lenzie, a big mansion house with out buildings and the like, from what I can tell it's just a shell, none of the insides left but looks huge, looks to be a pretty decent security fence round it though. |

LOL what you trying to say Chris ? ... no mate, iv never been to it.
I went to a motor college on the outskirts of Livingstone from 1986 to 1989, we used to stay for 4 weeks at a time and it had something like 500/600 single rooms, canteen, tv rooms, the lot, and on the other side of the trees was the training side of things, its where Kwik Fit /ATS, car dealerships and Partco etc would send you to get trained up, you had to walk up a tree covered road to get to it which was off the main road, since them days iv driven past it a 1000 times on the M8 from Glasgow/Edinbrugh, 2 years ago i thought nip in as i was passing only to find that it was all boarded up, overgrown and in darkness and looking shabby, sad really, seemingly it had been shutdown for years, lack of funds apparently, there used to be a gang of us used to go into Bathgate every night and get drunk (underage of course ) then walk up the dark road and try and sneak in without "Mr Philips" (ex copper, big f*cker ) catching us, he always did though they knocked it down now and posh houses have been built there, time moves on i suppouse. |

Runwell is only 14 miles or so from where Mals and i reside.
It's only the labs that are abandoned, the rest of the hospital is active, a friend of mine used to be a porter in the hospital.
It still is a hospital for ppl with mental disorders. |

i just wish i had a camera when i was a kid, we used to go to places like this every weekend, the old darlaston swimming baths, the derilict part of bescot railways station, the dissused line that ran behind our estate and loads of factories, tunnels, houses that had been abandoned years ago. sadly in the west midlands as soon as something becomes disused it aint long before the vandals/arsonists/druggies move in and destroy it, then it is quickly redelevoped. |

When I was at college, I had a friend who lived in Runwell, he used to tell lots of stories about the hospital. Escaped patients, strange noises screaming etc. Went to have a look with a couple of mates one night, scary as hell a real wierd feeling to the place. |

You can't get anywhere near the disused part now, it's all been fenced off and there is CCTV on the site cos the rest of the hospital is still fully operational.
I took a drive up there last saturday night and all i did was drive past it, parked, got out and had a look at the fence and a security car was despatched to see what i was up to.
few years back when Marconi closed a lot of its factorys in chelmsford, a friend of mine was a security guard at one of the sites.
These sites were huge and he used to let us bomb round them in the cars, was like our own private raceway
Not only around the buildings but through them too, was a good laff. |
