How much of a pain in the arse is it to change a head gasket on a 19 16v?
I only ask beause i was speaking to my mechanic brother this morning and i happened to mention i am tempted to get another 16v. Basically the conversation went like this....
Me: If i bought another 19, would you change the headgasket on it for me?
Paul: No
Me: Oh, right
He was always bitching and moaning about working on my old 19 but surely it cant be much more hassle than on any other car? (p.s. i know sod all about changing a head gasket!) |

nah its no more difficult then any other 16v car really. Bit harder than an 8v purely because of the size/weight of the head and lifting it out of the bay. 2 guys though, no probs. |

Yeah but two guys, one of which knows sod all about changing a head gasket? Basically Neal, im tempted by the 16v down the road in Harpenden mate. Did you go and have a sneaky peak at all? Cant buy it right now but emailed the guy and asked him to get in touch if it doesnt go on ebay. |

Wouldnt recommend that one mate, its not been looked after so it is likely to be problem after problem even once you fix the headgasket TBH |

Nice one Neal. Doesnt sound like such a bargain after all then! Shame really as it was only down the road and looked ok in the photo (dont they all though!). Every other one i come across that catches my eye seems to be in the middle of god knows where. |

Yeah it looks good in the photo because that's not actually the car he's selling, it's a picture he has 'borrowed' from another one that was up on ebay. |
