you don't put worn fronts on the back unless you like to slide into lamposts.
Tyre rotation is an idiots past time. |

EEk that doesn't look good.
Got new toyos on the front and old pirelli p700s on the back. In the wet the back end tends to try and overtake the front a fair bit on roundabouts but it's better than the other way round and getting understeer everywhere, at least if they are on the front i've got grip to pull me out the corner. |

yea, the back end is a bit twitchy in the wet, and the front just pulls hard out of all the corners now, goes round them, not a hint of understeer. |

You must be an incredible driver then as theres nowhere near enough power to sort it out on a 19.
I have yet to see any driver race circuit or elsewhere recover from a rear end letting go with bald rear tyres in the wet.
i can only do it in rwd cars, even then if its not got enough power I struggle then to, i find less than 200bhp you don't have the control to catch it.
get some vids up, as you'd be snapped up in a jiffy by any race team if you can recover in the wet like that. |

Slow down there a little bit Chris. (Probably me explaining it badly again)
Mine aren't bald on the back they're not as good as the toyos and they are also older with less tread, but not bald.
I'm not talking high speed here either, local roundabouts at 20-30ish is all.
If I go into a roundabout in the wet fairly slow 20-30ish with a bit of lock on then let off the throttle then the back end swings out a bit (As you would expect) So all i have to to is apply the throttle and point the wheels where i wanna go.
If you want I'll wait till it rains again and video me doin it. |

yeah lets see a vid, will be funny if you hit a tree! lol
20 or 30 mile an hour is enough to get it spinning a long way in my experience.
Your pretty stupid to put decent tyres on the front and leave crap ones on the back though. I have gone sideway one th emotor way at 50 because the tyres were worn to within 3/4 mm of bald, only luck has let me recover it, theres never enough power to catch it.
Except like I said for rwd, the old cossie I could hang the tail out on for however long I wanted then bring it back in, no matter what the speed. |

I will post a vid when it rains next mate. Although you know you will get it right every time you do it until you try and film it.
Thankfully i do it round a certain roundabout so that if i do loose it i've got run off. You can see pretty far off every exit so wet+dusk = slippy and u can c headlights comin.
If I'm playing around doing it I try to be fairly sensible and not take huge risks hence 20-30 on a local roundabout and i dont do it with anyone else in the car.
Also the tyres on the back aren't dangerous as such as they have 3-4 mm of tread BUT they are old and as a tyre dont offer the grip off the toyos.
Also I'd like to mention that you don't need to be an idiot to replace two of the tyres but not the others. It's called skint . Basically the fronts were bald so needed replaced. Would have done the rears too but didn't have the money
Having said all that you are right, I wouldn't want the back end to come round unexpectedly cos that is gonna catch me out 9 times out of 10 (Probably 10 out of 10 really). But if I'm the one that's inducing the slide in the first place then I can anticipate things and not screw up.
The other thing of course is that RWD can push you round in a slide and therefore keep it goin whereas FWD is going to TRY and pull you in whatever way you point the wheels. |

ytou put the shit tyres on the front and the decent ones on the back, I do it. I can never afford 4 new tyres either. Need to buy some for the megane as well and the new one son the back and crappers on the front until they are all replaced.
fwd doesn't try and do much, normally just spin, you have watched to many austin maxi adverts |

I always thought (and you can't argue with the logic here) 70% Braking, 100% Steering and 100% Power all go through the front wheels so personally that's where I want my grip.
BTW I have no idea what an Austin Maxi is although my boss rekons you are on about the old ad with Russ Swift in the Montego. |

more braking than that goes to the rear.
The front wheels can do whatever they like what does it matter if the backs not responding?
An open diff on the front end and no grip at the rear means theres little control of the car.
in a slide you can have the throttle floored and spin the steering lock to lock and its not gonna make any difference |
