Bought this in London a couple of weeks ago, I'm quite impressed with the handling. The mid engine rear wheel drive configuration provides for some interesting experiences around wet roundabouts!
The second picture from the bottom shows a cubby hole behind the passenger seat , it has a factory fitted powered sub in it (same on the drivers side) which is ideally positioned to make the passengers feel the music as well as hear it...
As the pictures show, I'm a lazy git sometimes and don't bother to wash cars, although I do keep them well maintained.
Quite a heavy car though, weighing in at around 1.5 tonnes. This is the UK spec Revision 3 facelift model which is heavier than it's predecessors but also kicks out more power - 173bhp - an increase of 19bhp over the revision two and 5bhp over revisions 4 & 5.
It took until Revision 3 to sort out the back suspension too, previously if the driver lifted off on a corner the transfer of weight to the front end would cause the back end to destabilise. This almost certianly results in a spin due to the mid engine configuration of the car.
Despite the improvements I still managed to do a 360 comming of a roundabout in the wet though!
Very pleased with it and I intend to keep it for a long time, being a Toyota it will probably outlast my desire to drive it. Fingers crossed.
Insurance - Believe it or not this cost the same to insure as the 1.2 Clio I was sharing with my sister (20 yo). The difference being now that she is not on the insurance any more, this change equates to a difference of 13 groups! |

Thanks.
Well, the MK 2s are getting oldish and this one has plently of miles on it, so we're not talking a lot of money.
It was a toss up between that and a Celica VVTL-i 190 but I thought the MR2 was better value for money (having depreciated all it was going to).
The Celica would need to be insured fully comp but this car can be insured TPFT which equates to a large yearly difference.
That plus the current and foreseeable need for only driver + passanger swung me toward this car. |
