Hiya guys
What is the cheepest way to get my car to rev to about 7.5k without limiter kciking in?
Is there a cheep chip i can buy, i know a guy who can do realy good soldering and does small circuit board stuff who has chipd an ECU for me in the past if you guys know what bits are needed and have pics of what bit needs replacing ect?
Thanks Paul.

You'lll need a mappable chip fitted to the ECU and then obviously have it mapped appropriately (to suit existing modifications for example).

Not cheap, but you can unlock a fair wedge of power if it's mapped correctly.

I think he just wants to up the limiter Ben, in which case he just needs an off the shelf chip such as an Hill Power or Collins etc. one, or one of Mick's

Yeah true, but if the guy then later decides he wants to do other mods then a remappable one will be better, since he doesn't have to fork out for another 'pre-programmed' chip.

if he wanted it done right he wouldn't up the limiter on a stock engine would he!

chears guys how much is one of micks? an how hi is his revlimiter?
i have no plans to do any mods except for de cat if not already done.

I have k&n and some form of aftermarket exhaust, this car is a second car btw my weekend car will be 205mi16 this is just something to get to and from work and bung the kids in as my peugeot 309 1.4 looks shite and is about as bad on petrol as this car would be so figured why not just get something that looks abit better and has a bit of poke to it quite cool how they have power stearing thoe;-)

I think ben has fallen fowl of that age old problem of telling the poster what he thinks he needs, rather than what was actually requested.

chears schkal il hold fire for a bit as im abit skint but will pm you when im better funded;_)

are these EPROM chips on ebay for £60 any good i dont see how a n/a car can gain anymore power by having more fuel put in unless it advances the igntion too? im not too familier with n/a chip tuning anyone care to explain if they actualy do anything more then empty the wallet?

Thanks guys

ahh chips, best ones are the ones you put salt on . .

first off, what car is it going on ?
i assume its a R19 16v?

for just upping the limiter then a standard off the shelf chip will do, most will take the limiter to 7500 rpm and give you around 4-5bhp power increase.

why you want to bounce it off the limiter thou, well thats your choice.

to be honest, you really wont feel that much difference to your car with an off the shelf chip, there are too many factors that affect it, the condition of your sensors for one thing.
in some extreme cases fitting a chip wont even allow the car to start!

I take it that you know what your ECU does ?

the only real need to fit a chip is if you have done mods to the engine that would wildly affect what the sensors feed back to the computer, like you are running wild cams and throttle bodies, then the chip needs to be mapped to your car on a rolling road.

the resistors you see advertised on ebay are a load of crap, all they do is fool the ECU into thinking the car is on startup (cold) all the time and feeds more fuel into it, which then in turn reduces fuel economy, not an healthy option for your wallet or for your engine.

Micks chips do seem the best of the bunch out there, i've tested enough of them lol
i have found that his chips do smooth out acceleration, they adjust the powerband so that instead of the car kicking in with its power at around 4500rpm, it starts the band a bit earlier and smooths out the increase but it loses initial pull away power.

Neal and i ran two almost indentical hatches, mine was chipped, neals was standard, his pull away was quicker than mine from a standing start, thru the midrange mine pulled quicker, top end was about the same on both cars.

oh and one last thing, my current hatch was also properly dynoed and fitted with a superchip, mapped to my engine and that only gave a 10bhp increase over standard, with a decat pipe, stainless steel zorst and the chip i got 15bhp increase over standard but the funniest thing is this, i am currently running on a standard ECU, as it returns the best fuel economy, its rev limit is more than adequate and helps prevent the engine from blowing up and it gives the best power thru out the entire rev range and i get an enormous sense of satisfaction knowing that when i hit 4500 rpm its just gonna take off and still leave a good majority of cars choking on my exhaust fumes Smile

Hiya
I have a phase 2 reno 19 16valve i will not be bouncing off limiter just i seem to clip it in 2nd if the power doiesnt actualy come on strong until 4.5k and the limiter kicks in at 7 that gives a woping 2.5k power bandand if u just clip that limiter at what is it 7k then that will make u defnetly fall behind in a arace so id probably find myself changing at 6.5 meaning a 2k powerband or drive along whilst staring at rev counter and find myself in a ditch;-( just wana have it raised slightly for 2nd thats all;-)

Micks chips sound the best i will be running de cat zorst and filter so in this spec with a rr set up 10-15bhp is achiveable along with micks chip if so how much are they the engine i have is 80k so is still good for another 20k i hope thanks Paul.
