i've managed to snap of a piece off my gearbox.
the ring which holds the clutch cable and rubber gromit in place.
i have no idea about welding at all.
Is the gearbox ok to weld up?
i'm pretty sure the box is alloy so would that be a problem? |

yes it can be welded, its tricky findign someone skilled enough to do it as well.
Its also a load bearing part so it has to be good. |

yeah stupid really, i undone all the bolts (or at least i thought i had) and being an old engine, when the gearbox wouldnt come free i thought it may have been seized on somehow?
anyway after numerous checks blah blah blah i decided to hit it with a piece of wood.
i hit the one side and it came free, sorted.
i hit the other side and it slipped and snapped it off.
Then i found one las bolt hiding at the bottom....... GUTTED.
I think this goes to show, violence never solves anything. |

i aint replacing it for what it is a couple of quick tacks from a decent welder and is sorted.
(Providing alloy can be welded)
it snapped off quite cleanly so it shouldnt be a problem.
i will enquire tommorow |
