I'm getting a noise at the moment when I am driving that is very similar to that of a wheel bearing going. I have just replaced the front passenger side bearing but the noise seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I have checked all the wheels for play but there is no play in them whatsoever so I am presuming it's not any of the bearings?

The noise seems to sound very much like wind getting in, if you know what i mean, if you are going about 70mph (same sort of noise as if you were to open the window slightly). At lower speeds though I think it sounds quite like a bearing going but I don't know if that's my imagination as I had a bit of bother with the front passenger side bearing going a couple of times within 1500 miles and ended up replacing the hub and putting in a new bearing.

Is there anything you can think of that might be causing this or could it be a bearing even though there is no play in any of the wheels?

The car is a Mk1 1.4RT Clio.

Thanks.

I know this is gonna sound daft, and I am not takin the piss......but I had a weird noise on my car that was comin from the rear, and like you say it sounded like wind getting in somehow..........and when I got home & tried to figure out what it was, it was the seatbelt jammed in the rear passenger door Laughing

The door looked shut, and when you pulled/pushed it from the inside to check if it was fully shut, it was.......but the seatbelt was just makin a small enough gap to let some air in and make a weird noise.

So....could be something jammed in one of the doors?

Iv got more or less the same problem with the front drivers side wheel, it had a new bearing last year but after only 9 months it started making a noise like the wheel bearing was gone so i took it back to the garage and they are trying to say the bearing is fine, but im not so sure, iv driving it the way it is to see if it gets worse but its not, a few people have listened to the noise but nobody can give me an answer,

one thing is for sure though, im not spending any cash to fix it till i know what exactly is wrong with, fed up spending cash on the bitch only for the problem still to be there Rolling Eyes

It can't be a rear door because mine is only a three door.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Well would you say the noise is actually wind getting in? Or just like wind getting in? Could it be the clip that shuts the rear window not shutting it tight enough?

Thats the thing mate I'm not sure. At lower speeds it sound very similar to a wheel bearing (about 40mph) but at higher speeds (70mph) it sounds like it is wind and I'm not sure if it is actually that or not. I've checked the rear windows but they seem OK. I'm going to have another look around the car this afternoon.
