sorned in a public road is also illegal.
to take an untaxed/unmot'd car on the road it has to be insured and on its way to or from a pre-booked mot test.
If you get done then no mot will be dropped, no road tax will probably be around 400 quid, no insurance about £250 and 6 points.
if repeat offender under the new laws penalties will be worse, they can use the repeat offenders 2 year jail time law. |

Sorry to sound like an arsehole here, but I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.
People like you are the reason the vast majority of safe young people like myself have to pay four-figure insurance premiums to drive around in stupidly slow cars like 900cc Fiat Panda's and 1.0 Popular Plus Fiestas. |

Well, it's still £30 that could be saved isn't it?
Also, if you add up £30 for every driver in the UK, you'll find it amounts to quite a sum of money. |

righty ho boys of course eh!
Nothing to do with the fact we pay the most for insurance in the world, or the fact we don't sue others as much as say america and they have nice cheap insurance.
We pay the most and get the least! Pay 200 dollars for a mustang insurance have a bang sue the other for 10 grand then next year you still pay 200 dollars and the guy you claimed from maybe pays an extra 50 dollars.
You pay a grand for insurance for 5 years have a bang get 80 quid for the car can't claim, where the fuck has the other £4200 you have paid ovcer the years gone? Its not to you, not to the other party, nope into someones pocket and its not yours or paperwork or somebodies wages etc. Some fat exec gets his 5 holidays a year.
If you think its un-insured drivers etc that have put insurance up then frankly your blind and stupid.
And ben pot and kettle here, you drove hundreds of miles home in you un-moted clio and it wasn't to a pre arranged test, a pre arranged test means you go directly from your departure to the station, not home for a sandwich or home for the next day, so you have covered considerable distance un-insured.
99% of us have driven uninsured, howe many have phoned up the owner of a car then got insured on it to test drive it then cancel tthe insurance when you don't like it? Whats that, no one? |

I'll freely put my hand up to this.
I drove my p2 hatch uninsured, untaxed and un MOTed when I moved house and just the other day I drove my black hatch home with no insurance or tax and a busted windscreen, so by this definition I have a place on satan's lap waiting for me.
But it's not that black and white IMO. I don't do it habitually, cars I actually use are always fully legal, but if I want to move one thats then going to be off the road for god knows how long, I'm hardly going to MOT, tax and insure it am I.
Yeah yeah yeah "trailer". In an ideal world yes, but where am I going to get a trailer from at short notice, and a car to pull it, and someone to drive that car who is insured on it etc. when it needs to get moved urgently?
What if I was to hit someone/something on the one short journey? Well I dunno, you just try your best to make sure it doesn't happen.
It's shit though that just because I am employed etc. I am easy to punish and they would throw the book at me if I got caught where someone else might not suffer any real consequences because of their situation. |

I once had an insurance policy due to start on a particualr date but somewhere along the lines i got the dates mixed up and was driving the day before the policy commenced. And then what happens? Yep, you guessed it, got a pull and a '7 day wonder'. So i go to the station, documents in hand thinking no sweat, it wasnt until the fat biffer at the station pointed out my (genuine) mistake that i realised it wasnt going to be that straighforward. Ended up in court for driving with no insurance and even though it was my first offence and i explained what happened and that my policy was due to start in literally 3-4 hours (i even had the bloody policy documents to prove it) they still felt justified in giving me 6 points and a huge fine. Even after all my pleading etc etc the judges last words were, 'yes but you were driving uninsured weren't you'. What the f**k are you supposed to say to that? 'Yes, but not intentionally, are you stupid, have you been listening to a f***ing word ive just said'? C**ts! |

I have NEVER driven a car or riden a bike without it being fully legal.
That may be down to the fact that both my grandads were in the police their whole working lives so my parents brought me up with VERY strict moral guidelines. Therefore my parents would rather pay for me to be insured for a test drive than let me go on one without insurance.
Also if you can't afford tax well how can you afford the rest of the car.....and if you pay £30-----only £30 bloody pound for an MOT and the car fails then you are a braver man than me for driving it afterwards.
That said one of my mates has NEVER driven with the car being legal in any way shape or form and he has never been caught so from his point of view great. |
