Ok, just got back after 400 miles driving to view a Clio 16v.
Got there and the car looked nice, so went and had a look round. Body work seems good, few swirl marks and stone chips but all panels are straight and look genuine. Interior is basicly mint and all the dials work which is good.
Started up first time and he took me round the block, and it was very quiet, no clunks or bangs etc, although was a bit low on the speedbumps. Revved smoothly and went like a rocket when he put his foot down.
I managed to get the price down to £1200.
A few concerns though: It only has very small service history, from the last service which was oil, filters etc. Also I looked at the oil filler cap and it had a thin layer of brown mayo stuff...eek I though but I checked the header tank and it was nice and coolant smeeling and coolant colour, no oil etc and he did say before I even mentioned the mayo that he hasn't used it much, only a few hundred miles and he's seeling because his g/f has a new job which means a long commute every day. He also had a valver himself and seemed to know his stuff.
Anyways, I left the offer open and I'm gonna get back to him later tonight.
So what you think? I was thinking doing a HPi check and if it's clear then put down a deposit.
Cheers. |

The thought of paying over £500, or indeed these days over £250 for a car scares the crap out of me
You already know what to do... sod the clio and get a 19 |

Im completely clueless as to the value of clios, so it sounds expensive to me. If that's a good price and youre happy with what youve seen, then go for it. |

Nah seriously though I would if I can test drive it and it seems good. You'd have £1200 in your hand by the end of the week. |

ICE from this site popped round yesterday to pick up a cat and balljoint for his 19 valver, turned up with his missus and her clio 16v, the one he got for £400, looked very clean and sounded very nice!
it did not appear to have any of the rust problems i have seen on 19's and clios, only thing wrong with it was a knackered PAS Pump.
£1200 seems a bit steep to me too unless the car is in top condition, i would shop around mate, there are cars equally as good for a lot less money. |

ah yeah, soz i never got back to you on this finch, was on phone and kinda fell asleep after that.
But i also agree 1200 is a tad bit expensive
and if your willing to travel 400 miles to look at something, then there are many many many cheaper ones around, and probally in better nick
one on ebay 68k super fucking minter!! sold for £900 red one it was
also the one your looking at on ebay is now at £1300 so i dout he will now accept your £1200.
also look at it this way, if your willing to spend 1200, you can afford to get a bit of a snotter, and spend the rest making it a minter. |

Hey Rog!.
Yup. Dad is in The Trade (lol) so he's on the lookout.
I'll just have to keep waiting and keep my options open.
Shame DanLP won't sell me his for £700 as it is because we could get it looking rate mint.
But the search continues. have to say though, I fooking love these cars more than ever now
Cheers. |

I start my cars up for 5 mins and they get the mayo, its normal. I wouldn't let that bother me, you should have taken it out further, it would havbe probably cleared. |

Yeah thing is I wasn't insured on it, would have been good if I could have. It seemed a good car but oh well, plenty more fish in the sea etc. |
