we doing today then?

so far i found and fitted the blankign plug for the 16V door card where the window winder goes.

I am sorting out the pile of crap that I have, and theres a lot of crap.

I am missing 1 16V caliper carrier which is annoying.

Should get the sideskirts and shelf from neo today which will ne nice.

if I am super lucky my lock set from flipper will arrive today as well.

Well mums car is in for its retest, so i'll be taking that down hehehe, otherwise the remainder of the bodywork on the vlver then down in the barn for paint this weekend when rhys decides to get his arse into gear and move the mini out of it.

4 girlings sitting here lookign pretty. The 16V girlings are identcial to the 1.4's etc only the caliper carrier is different.

thats one thing i really hate are spiders, i used to be ok,but now we've moved here i mean they are huge feckers here, i swear we could put a saddle on these and ride them!!!!!!!!

I want a massive warehouse, huge outdoor yard, a few bays all with lifts, a massive store room and so on, won't happen unless I become a millionaire!

yard would be filled with scrappers. Those that are sound would be fixed for re-sale. The terminally rotten/damaged cars would be stripped all parts catalogued in their bin and the shells sold to the scrapman.

Organised it would be.

Nothing pisses me off more than good cars sititng in yards with windows left open and bits smacked in on them for a 'laugh'

Also it would have to be all concrete, non of this arsing around in oily mud shite!

yea, the best bit is dropping a bolt or something and the searching for it! you hear it drop then "oh shit, where the fuck did that go!" atleast its not like my last house where it was gravel! you drop anything there, its classed as lost in action!

Dunno if you have ever had the pleasure of removing an engine in the scrappy in mud with no help, its not fun!

Thatâ€™s what happens when you let people get their own parts off cars, they just hack and smash their way past everything in the way of the part they want. So they get their Â£2 bit of plastic or whatever, but lots of good parts are wrecked in the process.

Like that mint bonnet on the chammy I saw in the scrappy that some guy was dropping an engine on.

The oily mud pisses me off too.

I think there is good money to be made in breaking cars if you do it right. Pick the right marque/model and as you say, be organised, and youre away. Offer friendly service with all your parts catalogued on computer so when someone rings or emails you say a definite â€œyes I have what you need, it is Â£xâ€ or â€œno I havenâ€™t got thatâ€ instead of â€œdunno mate, youâ€™ll have to come and have a lookâ€. Fast effective mail order would be good too.

Look at infinicar, they seem to be quite organised in what they do, and people are broadly confident that when they ask for a part, they will receive what they want, quickly and it will be in the right condition. Theyâ€™re not doing too bad.

I go to scrappies and so called specialists and am shocked by what I see. I can see so many ways of getting a much hiigher turnover.

Higher turnover means more money which means you can put more money back into the business, new tools, exapnding, employees etc.

Specialising in one make is a good way to go but you need the money to get set up thats the big problem.

You can always expand into other makes as well.

The pile em high apoproach is all very well on CAT A/B cars or those thats are totally stripped and the shells are useless.

But dumping a rusty jag mk2 ontop of an alpine BMW with a knackered engine is taking the piss!

Thats 150 quid for the cars at most from the scrap man instead of an easy few grand by either breakign them properly or selliogn them off once fixed!

Cars are written off so easily these days, the scrappies round here are filled with meganes lately, dented wings and doors, or blown engines, easy fixes and the cars still sell, instead they sit then get crushed!

Not had to remove an engine at a scrappy yet, but my 19 where thats sitting its on gravel, so many nuts i had to go and fine ones to replace!

I know what you mean about cars having bits left open and what neal was on about,again gets annoying, like i say a 19 16v with the engine taken out, and the speedo cable was just streched, the outer cable ended up being like 12ft long!

Addie I have to say Paul does charge quite high, but at the end of the day he has overheads, getting the cars, stripping them, transport, disposal etc.

then again he does enough of it that he could drop his prices by quite a margin!

i would rather sell at half price and have a high turnover so its compensated for. You get and retain customers that way.

I couldnt agree more chris, the bonnet business seems to be taking off rather well, i think its because we are undercutting the main people for this type, cool louvres, they charge Â£300 for just a bad boy bonnet, and yet we are doing bonnets with vents like evo's etc for under Â£200, soon we should have a nice luittle premisis, and i'll only be doing mechanical work, whilst rhys will be doing the body side.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way desputing Paul's business model - I was just saying that, as a customer, I would prefer to pay less for the sake of sticking on a pair of wellies and getting the bits off myself.

I think Paul knows that he is a last resort, people come to him when they need something they can't get local / off eBay and he charges accordingly.

Does he not have such an interest in Renault 19's anymore though? I see he was selling that Chammy of his cheap, thought he'd break it instead.

I miss seeing the bargins Valvers he used to bring home on a trailer, seems to be all Pugs and Saxos now - but thats where the money is in parts I guess.

no money in the 19's anymore, only cliso really.

He doesn't break them as he can't shift the stock he has already!

Thats why sometimes like when he had all those engiens he sold them off at 80 quid a pop.

Well seen as a whole car can be picked up for Â£1 off eBay guess theres no money in them anymore! Wonder what happed with Neo's Â£1 valver!

I thought Â£25 was cheap - Neo needs to rake out that auction and show it to the guy saying thats what they go for! lol.
