I can put it off no more, my ears are near bleeding by the time I get to work in the morning from the drone of my rear wheel bearings. Sounds like ive got a second engine in the back seat.
I've been looking and waiting for some bearings to appear on ebay cheap but Ive had to just bite the bullet and buy a pair from GSF.
Now, in the next couple of days, a set will appear on ebay and sell for some silly low price, 100% guaranteed.

While we're on the subject of wheel bearings, what actually happens when one eventually collapses?
My Dad told me a couple of years ago when the 19's were changed that when they collapse they can actually flip a car over onto it's roof, kind of like when you apply the front brakes too sharply on a bike!
A front bearing on the Clio is whining away now, pretty sure it's passenger side, sounds like a washing machine is being run off the engine.... |

LOL wtf is your dad on? how could a bearing possibly cause it to do that?
i mean yeah if the wheel fell off and you careered into a ramp or something!

But you still haven't answered my Q.... what would happen if you drove it 'til it collapsed? |

Car would probably explode...then flip on it's roof.
Surely the car would start to drive like shizzle because of the increased amount of friction due to lack of bearings. |

I personally dont see how it could 'collapse' in the sense your talking about seeing as its in a metal cylinder.. It could possably disintegrate inside that... |

it will make very intresting handling and it will destroy the hub and so on due to heat.
Worst case scenario is the wheel locks up solid due to the heat. You can still drive it like that enough to stop semi-safely. |

yeah well he ummed and ahhed about which ones to give me even though i told him so i can just say theyre not the right size, theyre not going to know thats for sure. |

about 46 quid, like i said i needed them ASAP. In the end as soon as i tried to get one of the bearings out of my discs it disintegrated leaving just the outer race in place which I cant shift. Going to have to press it out at work somehow. So I've had to take the discs off my hatch which I really didnt want to do. Still it's sorted the problem for now, i still need to fit bearings to the chamade's discs and get them back on as the hatch's ones dont have the ABS rings on them. It's not as urgent now though so I can wait for the ebay ones. |
