Going to replace the box soon. id like to do it with the engine in place really. how difficult is it to do so? Dont really have the materials to take the engine out.
Are there any little helpers for taking the box out in situe?

Have fun - It's a pain in the arse. We took it out via the top, ABS as to be moved out the way, but I'm sure Chris take's it out via the bottom. |

Probably easyer to take the engine out, at least then you can change the clutch and timming belt with ease, also a good idea to change the rear mount at the same time, see if you can hire an engine hoist for a week
have fun |

never take it out the bottom, you can't unless you remove the engine and then force it through!
either hoik it out or undo the subframe to slide it over. |

Chris. Are you saying that with the subframe unbolted you can slide the engine enough to the left to give clearance to the gearbox to lift out? Mines a phase 2 by the way.
Am in same situation as frenchy possbly needing new box. Have lost second gear syncro I think as it wont go in when changing down without crunching. Am going to change my clutch pedal ratchet 1st as it looks suspect but I think the box is on last legs maybe. |

bbracer wtf are you talkign about?
undo the rear mount and gearbox mount, make sure the engines supported, you can''t move it unless you have a hoist really.
then the box can be pulled out.
if you drop th erear bolt on the subframe and lever it down then you can slide the box into that hole and change the clutch. |

you casnnot remove a box out of the bottom.
even with no engine in you have to fiddle the box round to get it out the subframe hole so bbracer you and your dad and mate are shite talkers. |
