Something which I have never bothered with til now but would like to sort.
Previous owner fitted lockwood dials and I guess removed the needles or something because the tacho doesn't work properly. It reads about 500 rpm too low (car idles at 400rpm according to the dial and hits limiter before 7K)
Also sometimes it just sticks at around 4K rpm and stays there even when you slow down/speed up.
I have had clocks out before to change a bulb, so I know it can be an arse, but I want to know if there is a certain way of attempting to fix needle, rather than just pull/turn it??

i think the only way to sort that is, as you say, to take it all apart and put the needle back on in the right position. Dont know how they could screw that up though, you just put it all back together with the tacho needle at 0.
Oil guage is a different matter altogether mind you... |

I had this exactly problem with my valver and lockwood dials.
The only way to fix them is to remove them, its easy enough to get the plastic off and then use a fork or two knives one either side of the needle to prise it off and then press them back on making sure that when it grips you turn it slightly anti-clockwise so it rests in the right place. The needle should be halfway between the little ] shaped line at the bottom of the dial, between 0 - 10 on the speedo and the same kinda ] on the rev counter. |
