How is the exhaust manifold joined to the down pipe? Is it some kinda clever join that allows a bit of movement? Rather than a 'normal' join like other sections of the exhaust? I was just wondering, because if ur under my car and you try and move the exhaust around, it's SOLID, like no movement at all.....and I figured out now that it seems to be cuz of me downpipe. It's just....stiff as hell. You can force it to one side like, and then it'll stay there.........force it back to where it was before.......and then it'll stay there, it just stays where you put it like, it's that stiff. And it's quite hard to move. Most cars have a nice bit of movement on the exhaust on the rubber bushes if you try and move 'em around, like they're quite free to move. But mine isn't at all, and it's starting to cause a noticeable vibration when I'm drivin cuz it's so solid. Doh
Reckon it could be that join seizing up or something? It's not touching the body of the car (cuz that's what the vibration feels like), cuz when ur under the car you can move it round okay without it knocking against anything.......it's just so hard to actually move around! |

Cheers dan, so it's probably likely that my springs are buggered then? I'll have to have a closer look, cuz dunno how to sort it. Can't really buy a new 'join' can ya! Doh |

no its meant to be stiff, if its not blowing then its fine. The reason it has that there is because the engine will tilt when accelerating so it needs a pivot point. |

might find some tool has put exhaust paste on the gasket causing it to be so stiff
if its been pasted then you will need a new gasket. |
