Ok, so my Valver is going on Friday - not desperate to get a replacement just yet until I finish my degree - but I will if something comes up at the right price.

So, lets assume for some reason my next car isn't a Renault 19 16v!

Budget is about upto £1500 - been looking at:

Citroen Xsara VTS - 2.0 16v
Pug 306 GTI-6
Golf Gti 2.0 16v / Seat Ibiza 2.0 16v (more because they hold their value / easy to sell then actually wanting one)

Basically, it has to be a 'decent' car or my Girlfriend will hurt me (she wants me to get a Mk4 Golf / Bora or something! Arrrrgh!). She liked my Cordoba, so did I!

Any other (sensible) suggestions? Smile

Xsara VTS over the 306 any day. Basically the same, but without the 6 speed box. Newer, less miles etc., not a lot of difference in price.

Plus it looks a lot like a 3r phase 2 19 16v Very Happy

Celicas are ssllloowww even a ST205 couldn't pull much on my old turbo 19 and they're 240-250bhp!

Why not just keep the 19?

Because if I'm honest, I'd prefer a Chamade - I bought it because it was the right price and I've sold it for the same reason. I needed a car over Xmas for work and now I just haven't got the time to drive it. Got my Dads Volvo S40 TD to use during the week.

Looks tidy - but a port and polish +33bhp? Too damn low also.

Astra GSi Red Top (a bit chavvy?)

Someone suggested Mondeo ST24 etc but not my scene really.

Coupe of some kind, not a BMW though because that would add 10-15 minutes to every journey on account of never being let out of junctions.

Bloody awful cars, drove all the way to Liverpool to test drive a black R plate (reg was R19 VVC, thought it was fate!) 1.8VVC - the build quality / dash / inside was YUCK!

Nice looking cars from the outside though, but couldn't live with it.

There slow as feck though. I pulled in front of one in a straight line drag.

Cheap power potential from the turbo though

Reliablity, Easy to Work on, Holds Value, Girlriend Friendly, Pref 3dr, Ins Grp 15 Max, Circa 150bhp.

Don't want to set the world alight with it, want to see what kind of Job I get after my degree first.

Rover 216Gti

Yeah I know but don't laugh just yet

Honda engine so it's reliable, and the cars themselves are quite well designed as far as maintenance is concerned.

Until the girlfriend ferries you about, she can keep her mouth shut about what you use to ferry her about.

3dr

fairly cheap insurance

OK it's nowhere near 150bhp

But hey, as far as 'holding value' is concerned - it's not going to lose any more money! Laughing
