Well, over the weekend i replaced my inlet manifold gasket, injector o-rings, thermostat, fixed a coolant leak and did some general cleaning and tidying under the bonnet.
Havn't bought coolant yet so just filled it with water.
Would this cause the engine to run a little hotter than usual or have i got another airlock
Took me bloody days to get all the air out last time |

It's an 88.
Same that was in there before.
I've got an 82 aswell so i'll try that and see what happens, also check that none of the sealant has beaded and broken off inside the housing and blocked it.
Cheers! |

It's sitting on the third line all the time, if i'm driving under 30 the fan will be cutting in all the time.
Too hot for my liking |

Any good techniques to getting the air out?
I've had this broblem too many times before and have yet to find a sure fire method to bleeding the system.
One bleed screw on the radiator, how generous of renault lol |

Vacuum filling?
Would this be done by sucking the water through the system through one of the hoses at the header tank? |

aye sort of. systems rigged up via a cap to an air line wich pulls out all the air, thus creates a vacuum. Checks are made to make sure it holds a vacuum (if not theres a leak) then coolant is out in vai the cap but a different line.
Theory is no air in there so the coolant will be forced into all the the nooks and crannies. |

i always wondered if leaving the cap off the tank and running the engine would help to let the air out or not ???? |

not really no.
But its very good at creating air pockets around the head due to localised boiling. |

Weehhheeeeyyyy!
Well, looks like my efforts paid off, and i had given up aswell lol
On the way to work, temp sat just under half way all the time, no sudden drops (when an air lock reaches the temp sensor).
All the swearing, the burnt arms and scolded hands were worth it in the end lol |

The car was parked facing up hill (wasnt part of the plan, the drive is just on a slope).
I filled the system with water, then sucked like hell on the small pipe that returns to the top of the header tank until i got a mouth full of water.
Then ran the engine with the bleed screw off the radiator, water came out but then a few seconds later there would be a bit of air, so i kept this up (whilst topping up the tank) until no more air came out and there was a steady flow of water.
Cap on, job done.
The only downside of this was getting the bleed screw back in whilst i had scolding water pouring out of it. lol
Didn't think it had worked at first but havn't had any problems since. |
