How you all doing? Hope all's well in the world of retro-renaults..

I have recently inherited a new car.. A 1.6 Escort Laser Estate no less!

It's a 1984 car, and has done a whopping 50,000 miles!

Had a look around the engine and air filter seems ok, the engine is pretty clean and the oil looks to have been changed quite recently. It was previously my grandfathers car, and he maintained it well.

However, since first getting it the fuel consumption has rocketed, now returns about 15mpg! Anyone shed a bit of light on what I should be looking for? Hoping Chris sees this and sheds some light..

Anyone fancy swapping it for a valver?? Wink

Still a plan, but a way off yet..

Hopefully in a year or two it wil be a case of letting the house and heading off into the sunset..

I've been spending lots of time biking at the moment.. This is my (muddy in this pic) trusty bike:

Cost me a shed load more than a valver!

is it a 3 door estate? Those thinsg are pimping! lol

Its a CVH. If it has the ford VV carb then thats your problem.

Have a look see if its a VV if it is time to change it, the weber from an xr3/xr2 and its manifold will do the job and give a powe rincrease to boot.
