Right. 19's off the road AGAIN. Batt light came on the other day when i was drivin and voltage started droppin to about 11.9v compared to normal 14ish
Took the alt off and replaced it with the one from my old 19 which was workin fine. Still the same. Lookin at the original the pins for the block connector were corroded so i pulled the connector off the new alt an gave them a good clean, still the same
Questions... what do the 4 wires on the alt do and where should they go? I've got a big black one, a big red one and a small white and small yellow in the block connector.
Could never get me head around alternators so i'm kinda stumped.
Oh, battery tested ok on the fancy tester in work |

big 10mm nut red wire maincharge wire. Black 8mm nut earth wire.
The brown plug is the lights.
The alternator pumps out AC current, this won't charge the battery and not much will work on a car with AC, so the rectifier pack converts it to DC by using diodes.
The aletrontor feed to the light works like this, both when the alts charging send a positve signal to the light bulb, this means it won't come on, if the charge starts to drop then 1 wire will not put out the ostive signal thus alloing neg to come through and turn the light on, thus if its slightly undercharging the light will be very dim maybe only visable at night. If the alts buggered then it will be brighht all the time.
Thats why when you don't start the engine the batt light comes on, no charge from alt so its bright, same happens when the engiens about to stall and the light comes on, not enough charge to keep the light off.
The thick red wire goes right around the engine and straight to the battery. The black earth leads back to the earth point ontop of the gearbox.
The block connector goes to the main loom connector on the inner wing. |

The lights is on full constantly. Its definately not the earth or the alt so i guess i'll have to try replacing the big red wire...that'll be fun!
Can't see what could have happened it tho, unless my avgas decided to eat thru it lol |

Thinkign abotu it the alt may be feedign into a red wire on the connector on the ECU holder thingy. I can't remember and its a monsoon outside so I ain't looking!
I assume you have a multimeter or can procure one. if so dissconnect the battery and put the multimeter across the alt waire itself and the battery lead connectors, if its open circuit then thats not to good.
You willneed to try and figure out which wires whioch though matey unles i remember. |

It looks like it goes into that connector but its a red w/white wire in that and it ends up in the relay/fuse box on the pass side. Not much feckin room to see behind the alt |

Fixed it today, a fuse was blown. I'm slightly annoyed at that... |
