ere look at these.... first pic is the old 1.8 pistons i got from jimbo's block...inlets on the left
the second is a shot of mine in my newer 1.8 block....inlets only showing
dont my newer ones look smaller than the older ones....!!
was lookin at this as im still deciding whether to grind the old but new rebuild block piston cutout for my 32s with cams....but the pocket seems bigger already (albeit bashed!) |

yeah id agree...wouldnt u say the old ones at the top look bigger? the cutouts seem to go right to the edge of the piston |

apparently plastacine test with std cams and valves shows about 3mm clearance...so with kent cams with a lift of about 10.3 and 32mm valves do i need to grind?? esp seeing as the pistons i am about to use have what appears to be bigger cutouts |

thing is, although u're using more lift, at the point where contact MAY take place, there is hardly going to be much difference in lift. wot (I mean what really) i mean is, say u have 3mm more lift with kent cams, it isnt 3mm untill its at max lift, by which time the piston is over half way down and well clear of any contact. at say TDC, there wont be a big enough increase in lift to cause contact....
they be fine!! |
