 Head Gasket

Thinking of changing the head gasket on the Chammy. Just wanted to know if the heads usually need skimming? I seem to remember Chris saying a good clean up was all that most needed? If it does need a skim, do I need to remove anything from the head, like valves?

if its just a skim and t hasnt had a skim before then you dont have to strip it.

Get a steel rule and firstly use a torch (i prefer the LED type as the light highlights stuff better) and see if there are any gaps along the cylinder head. Checl lengths, wedths at several points and the diagonal. If you can see light its going to need a skim, get your feeler gauges out and measure how much.

If not, you can just use a nice straight block of wood etc, wet and dry the face clean and put it back on.

i have just done mine, i did check mine and it was ok, just gave it a good clean up, and all seems fine.

its a low compression engine anyway, so a skim is nice.

thats cos ur ignition timing isnt set-up 4 a turbo....

10:1 TCR is nothing on a turbo with the correct chamber, even on 95.

In reality when running at peak efficiency (NA) your only looking at about 8:1 ECR.

Static CR's mean jack and shit since they only even apply when the enigine isnt moving.

i agree with that, but i think the static CR is a useful way of measuring effects of work done to the engine...eg skimming, new pistons etc cos they can be measured without the engine running to give u a clue as to whats changed.
