Locked the keys in the car the other night (duh!).
Haven't opened one in a while, but when I got around to it, it took approx 10 seconds.
This is crap.
On my second go I opened it in less than 5 seconds.
I am a relative beginner at this sort of thing, I hope starting the engine is more challenging, it's just as well I have a steering lock (or maybe not).
What a waste of time carrying keys is.
Gives a while new meaning to "Keyless car". |

You're quite right - no damage, no evidence of opening.
We did this to a guys car a couple of years ago and moved it onto the grass, put the handbrake back on and put it in gear.
Nothing was said for about a month, he couldn't figure it out but knew which dodgy character to ask about it!
I'll send you a PM - don't want to incourage this.
In saying that there are probably loads of sites that show you how. |

I once went to work and left my laptop in my car and the keys in there too. "Fortunately" my passanger side's door lock is damaged (someone has probably tried to steel the car in the past) and I put the screwdriver into it thinking that it won't probably work. But it did.
Stephen, if the trick applies to R19 too, could you send me a PM? I cannot think of anything worse than being on my regular fishing trip in the Northern Norway or Sweden in the middle of nowhere with my car keys inside and me locked outside(along with the spare ones). There the only tools are stones and small trees. And I wouldn't wanna break a window there.... |

Hi Chris,
I had to store my R19 for a quite a long time unwatched and made sure no-one would drive away with it. I took the MAP with me. A rather small and quite easy part to take with you and the car is a real b*tch or practically impossible to drive without it. If I have to leave the car for a week parked in the roadside during a fishing/hiking trip, I'll get the MAP with me or hide it. Under the back bench is a nice empty place for it. |

trou8ble is the car will drive with no MAP sensor, the megane drove for long enough with a full load signal due to broken pipe, if the sensor inputs missing then its ignored and old maps are used to compensate.
Best trick is to remove the rotor arm if you leave the car for a while.
Simple trick is to unplug the crank angle sensor plug from the ignition module, the engine will crank till the battery dies it will not start unless its plugged in. No CAS signal then no ECU turn on so no wspark or fuel injected. Its also one of these things you need to know what to look for. |

Indeed Chris, the CAS is a good trick.
I once tried my SPI energy without MAP (hose off and plug off). It died in idle and gave practically no power if I pressed the pedal. I wouldn't have driven it anywhere. So It certainly messed up my car's running.
But probably more modern cars are able to run without big probs even if many sensors are dead. But if it doesn't know the engine's position..... |

i found removing the steering wheel is deterant enough, not many thiefs have one of them in their pocket, and breaking the steering lock is much more difficult! |

the MAP sensor unplugged will take a while to get the car running properly, and need lots of revs to drive off and it will stall when slowing, eventually it will sort itself out enough to be driven regularly.
The megane was terrible with no MAP input but it was driveable and indeed it was driven for a few k miles with no map input, like a different car when I stuck the hose on. |

Dont you need to depressurise the fuel system before disconnecting the injectors? |

Could be a bit of a bugger if you're just popping to the shop; not sure they'd take too kindly to you hauling an engine round the frozen foods |
