I drove to bristol to stay with some mates for the weekend. As i was getting close i noticed the battery light was on. Shit i thought, the alternators going to go tits up some point in the next couple of weeks.
it went sooner than that and the car conked out just round the corner from their house and they had to tow me the rest of the way. I thought you got a bit of warning with alts before they go completely?
i need to fix this QUICKLY because i need to get home to my new job on wednesday morning.
After reading Chet's thread i checked all the fuses under the dash and theyre all fine.
Ive taken the alt off the car, how can i test it to see if its definately dead or not before i go to the local GSF for a new one?
What else should i check? |

Well before taking it off you should seen what it was charging at.
Now, erm not much really, either put it back on or get another one. |

The ammount of warning you get is usually the time it takes for your battery to go flat...happened with my sister - had to be towed off the m4. |

I managed nigh on 100 miles in my old black hatch when the alt died, cut out 100 yards from my house.
The energys alt died and it went for about 4 days and done about 300 miles, the joys of carbs and only havign to power the ignition. |

nah was quite easy actually with the headlight out. disconnecting the wires and connecting them onto the new one with it in place was a fiddly job though as theyre quite short. |

why do you lot find the need to remove the headlight?
It doesn't make it any easier and its very rare that the headlight comes out. |
