I've got a set of second hand drive shafts that i need to fit, does anyone know what is done to them by Renault etc to re-condition them is it just a clean re-grease and new boots? (providing CV's O.K)
and also how easy is it to change these? (considering i will probably get shocks changed at same time)
cheers |

recons get new boots, cleaneed, new rollers, new cages. Its basically a new shaft except the pipe bit is re-used.
Its easy enough to change them, the problem one is the drivers side as you need to bater out a roll pin, use a 5mm parrellel punch.
Also loosen the 30mm hub nut with the car still on the ground.
Shocks are easy to change as well if it all comes undone easily. |

That driveshaft pin is a pain in the arse, it is handy to have someone 'outside' who can spin the shaft round to what ever degree you require the driveshaft angled at for attack... downpipe/exhaust can get in the way! |

some are easy some are hard.
On the 16V's you don't have the downpipe in the way like on the energys. |

ive never needed to remove my driveshafts but when disassembling the hub to do struts etc many times i have noticed that the shaft feels like its coming out...seems to be a lot of outward travel...is this ok or am i missing the split pin? i guess its ok cos its never fallen off yet...

on the drivers side you dhould have an inch and a half or so of in and out movement, on the passenger side more, you can pop the shaft out of the diff. |
