The General Lee is now no longer running
Its donating a few of its essential brake system component for project money pit. The handiest way to get it all out is pull the engine out and the fact that the engine deserves not to be scrapped is another reason it coming out, i'm keeping it
Its been parked here for a good few months now as the tax and test are both out. Looking well eh?
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006.jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
Here was the engine bay when i started
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006(003).jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
This mount looks a little tired! Its fine tho!
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006(004).jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
Next up i removed the bumper, headlights and panel under the lights, this is what was holding them in
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006(005).jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
I drained the coolant system. The basin was already dirty so there was nothing out of the ordinary with it. The car never used any water in the time i had it
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006(006).jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
This, ladies and gents, is what makes the non injected energy lump so good. This used to be full of gunk but i cleaned it a few months ago
[img:640:480:aa5a5c0537]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/15042006(007).jpg[/img:aa5a5c0537]
Pretty much everything has been done to enable the lump to come out, the loom and coolant system are out. All the mounts are undone. The 18mm rear mount nut wouldn't budge so the 2 16's were took off instead
Hopefully tomorrow i can roll in into the workshop and get it jacked up and prepare for engine removal.

Forget to mention that when i unbolted the strut brace the car narrowed by about 5mm
I guess it took alot of stress!
If anybody needs any bits let me know cos i'm not keeping a whole lot of it |

I never got a pic of the carb before i cleaned it, it was terrible
I'm thinking i'm gonna have to pull the shafts out if i can't get a grinder tomorrow. Just realised i'm not in work monday so it may be an option to wait
Lots of good bits on it matey, so let me know |

Went out to the car, forgot the key, too lazy to go get it
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(001).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
With the car sitting on 2 flat wheels it was an effort to get under, the gear linkage proved difficult to get off cos it had the rubber thing on it and full of grease (first one i've seen like that!) So following a quick call to Chris another option was discovered. At least this is what i thought he was telling me
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006.jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
And with that out she came, i forgot about the earth strap at the back but then again i always do so why break from tradition!
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(002).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
Some of you may have noticed i pulled the engine and box out without disconnecting the hubs or the shafts from the hubs. I didn't think it was possible but without a breaker bar i couldn't open the hubnuts so i had to wiggle it out
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(003).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
THis gunky oily mess is the starter area
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(004).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
Even in death the modifying never stops, this time i was inspired by Gentle Bens motor!
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(005).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
This is where the heart of the beast lies now, beside the demon lump that was built by a few of us
[img:640:480:d0b20be59c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/16042006(006).jpg[/img:d0b20be59c]
I've left the brake unions soaking in penetrating oil so hopefuuly they'll open tommorow. I expect to fuck them all tbh! |

yep my hammer solution done the trick eh!
coinvo went liek this
"taop o tha morning te ye young Chris, a wee bit of advice"
"ok Chetty poo what is it"
"this fecking fooker of a fecker is fooking fecking me right the feck aboot"
"I see"
"what to do ya fecker?"
"hit it with a hammer and it'll be ok ya dobber"
"jumping leprechauns, thats a fine idea cheery bye"
"later mofo"
lol
get a blow the unions should be ok, but get a blowtorch out mate and that will always get them off.
Master cyl end will be no problem at all, the other ends may require the hot spanner. |

New helper today lol
Hanna was undoing the "dirty green wires" aka brake pipes while i was in the footwell pissin about with the pedalbox
[img:640:480:be57f1574f]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/17042006.jpg[/img:be57f1574f]
Heres the complete unit out of the car
[img:640:480:be57f1574f]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/17042006(001).jpg[/img:be57f1574f]
[img:640:480:be57f1574f]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/17042006(002).jpg[/img:be57f1574f]

I have the pipes hanging up where hopefully they won't get bent. The 2 front unions at the caliper side needed cracking open with a vicegrip but i think they'll be fine
[img:640:480:be57f1574f]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chet/leedisa/17042006(004).jpg[/img:be57f1574f]
For the rears i cut them off past the unions under the passanger side footwell to tackle them at a later date |
