hi people... i want to do a engine conversion on my coupe and prima racing have given me a quote for £4000

the donor car is a volvo 480 turbo and my car is a megane coupe 1.6e

i have been told the engine mounts will just bolt on to my subframe, is this true??? and how much other work is required???

the engine will go straight in. Mounts are the same.

Main problems will be the wiring really. The immobiliser will be retained etc btu you might need to alter soem of the wiring to get talking to each other if you will. Also the exhaust.

no the megane immobiliser as the BIC is in the dash loom not the engine loom.

lol at Chet, yes my living is a retro renault mod and a vehicular engineer, I am above mechanic/technician.

i thought the imobiliser was in the ECU... because with the imobiliser active... i can still turn the engine over

the passanger compartment unit and the ECU

yes its coded to the 3 but the volvo immobilser won't know that so the car will retain the immobiliser and run.

You coudl remove it totally btu then thats an arse ache of a dash re-wire I'd imagine.

ok cool, so is it much hassle getting it to work then??? or is it pretty straight foreward for an auto electritian to do???

i know of someone who can do me a custom exhaust from down pipe back for under £300
and i know of somewhere to do the driveshafts...

i will be putting the engine in... and taking my time, so dont worry...

how much power could i get from this engine? and wots the highest safe boost i can run it at?

should be easy enough to wire.

Why are you using different driveshafts whats wrong with the ones already there?

As for power, well its pretty cack so not as much as a GTT engine would give but you have th ebenefit of capacity.

i thought the drive shafts might need altering... and seeing as i am lowering 80mm... they wud need altering really to take the extra stress..

so how much max power cud i get frm the volvo??? i have heard too many storys about the r5 to go for that engine...

i have heard off the renault 21 turbo forum that there engines can run 20psi boost standard... and 250bhp, or is that a 2ltr??

i have also heard that u can run a 480 safe at 15psi... and get 200bhp out of it??? is either off these true for the 1.7 turbo?

mate, you cant afford to keep your car on the road with things like drive shafts.. coil packs etc etc.. why you continue to bullshit people in saying that your gonna do this conversion?

i have acctualy.... kept the car off the road for 6 weeks now... saved up enough money to buy a 480... and insure it wen its finished...

the reason y i am doing the conversion... is.... a recon megane gearbox will cost me £500 and then i need a clutch kit....

then to get it through the mot i need a lambda probe...
and to get it to the mot center i need a water pump and cam belt....

so...... it is acctualy cheaper to do the conversion.... so dont try telling people you know me... wen you dont have a clue about me...

its coz of you and sum other person that i am not bothering with the other club... your all pleasant enough!!! you know not a lot...

YES.... my car has been riddled with problems... but.. I NEED A CAR!!! and with the money i have spent so far on the bodywork! i am NOT getting rid of this one!!! so.... listen mate! keep your comments about me and my car to yourself! if you have something to say to me... u got my msn addy.... so it to me on there, or come over here to anglesey and tell it to my face!!!!

and btw... chrisH??? y u lettin persons like this rouin your forum??? i came on here coz i wanted to share my experiences and the knowledge i have gained from what has gone wrong on my car... he joined to stir up trouble!.... have i started anything on this forum??? first post... was not really suitable... so i did appologise,, but since... NOTHING!!! i just need advise on this particular thing! as i am going to look at a 480 on sunday...

cheers anyway chris for your help! i dont know if i will be back.... not with wot (I mean what really) i have to put up with off that bloke!

aint really going to cost a lot of money. if the engine mounts are the same, then it shouldnt be a problem putting the new engine in...

there is pleanty of room to work with in the megane engine bay... all i need to do is find an engine hoist... but... that aint a problem either coz i have been offered a job in a 4/4 center... so i now have ALL the tools i need for the job..

and my mate smee is doing the engine wiring loom for me... so the only cost really is the donor car.. which can be had for under £500

i was supposed to get 1 today, but i phoned the bloke up to say i was coming to see it and he told me he had sold it Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

so i am on the lookout again..... should be finished in the next 3 weeks.. will post pics as soon as its done, and through the conversion...

i promise!
