Last night i flush the cooling system and changed the thrmostat since then the temp has been sitting just below the 2/3 line keep bleeding the rad but nothing is coming out, i suspect it is an air lock as opposed to a dodgey new stat, is it easier to drain down and refil the system hoping to refill without air lock than keep trying to chase the bloody thing, how else have people eliminated air locks?
thanks |

are you trying to bleed it with the engine running?
if so thats not gonna do anythign unless its built up pressure.
open the bleed and water will come out, then close it squeeze the pipes and do it again.
Then take it out make sure the system builds up pressure then leave it running and you can bleed it.
If theres no pressure you just draw air in with it running. |

right as a follow up, I bled the system as instructed, I was pretty sure it was air free, went out and it started off ok till i opened it up then the temp shot up to 2/3 didn't go higher and then continued to sit there till i got home. so tried bleeding again, no air. i thought I best check iI got the thermostat in the right way, let it cool, checked thermostat all ok. refilled, bled no air etc went for a drive and the same thing happened. as i'm doing a long run today i thought fuck it the old thermostat was more reliable lets try that. fitted it and it's now running almost spot on! just one small line under 1/3 raising when stationary! so can only assume it a dodgey stat!! |

this happened with mine. the old themostat may be stuck open thats is why it is running cold should stay at the same temp all the time once its warmed up. is the needle sitting just above the half way or not with the new 1. then u are driving it does the temp drop quite low with the old 1. sounds to me like the old was faulty but so ran low and the new 1 is maintaining the temp which is wot (I mean what really) it is suppost 2 do |
