well a full respray for the 19 has been on the cards for a while..

went down earlier today to a body shop,who i have heard nothing but good things about,seen some of there work and its spot on.

got quoted around Â£12-1500 quid,does that sound about right?..if im going to be honest is the kind of figure i thought i would be playing with.
all rust spots and dings are to be taken out..most of the rust is on the lips of the doors right at the bottom..and going to be sprayed up in its origianal colour,brooklands green Razz

dreaded question..underseal or not?how does it differ to waxoyl?

underseal is not gonna fall off like waxoyl its painted on and if done properly covers the full lot.

is that a bare metal spray or what?

tbh anything up to 6 or so k is reasonable for a proper bare metal full respray thats better than new.

nah its not a bare metal job chris..

had some quotes from other places and there more or less on the same mark.

reason i ask about the underseal is because of neals previous post on how it locks in moisture etc..
which would u recommend?

Why you would want to spend that sort of money on a respray on a 19 is beyond me. Fair play if you've done a total strip down rebuild and plan to keep it for a long time (see Neal for example) - but on the grand scale of things I rather sit on my hands and wait for a minter to come along for Â£1500 then spend the same amount on a respray, or put that money towards something else.

Â£2000 can get you a very tidy/fast car these days and you can still have a cheap 19 for shits and giggles.

You want a bare metal rub down deep into the arches and bonnet, all the usual bits or you'll be touching up that respray in 12-18mts WHEN the rust bleeds through.

Respray needs to be the very last thing on the list once you've got a mint engine in there (or out for a colour change), everything else is sorted new or replaced and your going to keep it for your own enjoyment, because you won't get that sort of investment back.

know exactly what you mean addie..but i have thought about it and to be fair theres nowt out there tickling me..i would love a sierra cossie but being 21 dont think thats a wise move. Rolling Eyes

the reason i dont want to spend on getting another minter is alot of work has been done and gone into mine and know what is and isnt wrong. getting another,well could be a minter but feckd mechanically.was considering a series 2 rs turbo but finding a unmolested example is proving to be a mission.

i really like the 19s..not as common..got mine bought for me 18th..had it three years and still not bored,so thats summat...my first year insurance doubles the cars worth..so not intending on getting me money back.probly end up keeping it..and move onto something else(diamond white 4x4 sierra cosworth). Razz

hmm,

i would like a respray on my clio..when it finally goes again.

but at the moment just one side is needed to be done, as it has a deep scratch down it

but ive decided that sorcing a decent door for it and then having the back panal sparyed will be a cheaper option.

You can't factor insurance / tax costs into a car as these you would have paid anyway and does nothing to effect the cars value. I too had a 19 16v at 18, I paid Â£250 for the car and Â£500 TPFT for the insurance.

Enjoy your car and by all means have it tidyed up but Â£1500 to make it worht Â£200 more is madness, your best off sticking Â£1500 in your pocket and waiting for another 19 to come up thats more mint then yours, sell yours (Â£700?) and have change to fettle with the engine etc. Its easier / cheaper to fix mechanics then bodywork.

But, its your money, I'm just a tightarse.

i had no hesitation in breaking GYP when it failed the mot and needed Â£500 worth of welding done to it to pass.
I did a lot of work to that car too, engine change, power steering rack and steering column change, balljoints, suspension etc etc

I bought another valver for Â£75 which had decent bodywork but other issues, took all the good stuff off of GYP and used that to sort the Â£75 valver, sold off the rest of GYP and in the end GYP paid for all the work done on the Â£75 valver which passed its MOT first time with no advisories Very Happy

and have since been offered Â£750 for it (and i will prolly sell it after FCS this weekend so i can get on and finish the blue chammy i have sitting in my garden)

i suppose i have got attached to it..had it 3years now and it was my first car...

i would rather plough my money in to this one rather than get another..dont know why..

I have no shame in saying yes, I am attached to my 19.

My Dad paid Â£650 for it 7-odd years ago and it's been up hill and down dale throughout the 50K+ miles I've put on it and all it's wanted for (bar the consumables) is a water pipe. It's been all way to Glasgow and Newquay twice and everywhere in between!

If I sold now it I'd get feck all for it and there's no way I could bring myself to scrap it, it might be a heap to some, but it's just far too good condition to sell (considering it's age)

A couple of years back an asian bloke knocked on my door in Manchester and offered me Â£1500 for it, in much the same condition it is now. I turned the offer down.

Yes, I love my 19.

i had a guy 'stalking' me a while back kept bumping into him around town..

came over once and asked me if i were selling it..told him not at the moment but i if i did id want around 2k for it..he thought that were a fair price..next day he came knocking on my door with Â£1900 cash!!!

the thing i was trying to figure out was how the f*** did he know where i lived!!...not seen him for awhile...
