Evening guys, i was at a car show last weekend in carlisle and stayed in a tent over the weekend, there were a few people with mk1 clio's (1.8 16v) and all weekend they seemed to be absoluty thrashing the arse off there engines (rev limiter constantly), my question is how strong are these engines? i know it sounds a daft question because servicing and oil pressure etc have a great part in how good an engine is but i was just curious really. Any common faults like con rods through blocks or valves dropping? Cheers |

Well mines been fairly bullet proof, alsong as they are looked after well and all levels checked regularly there shouldnt be a problem. more than likely diff circlip will go before the engine. |

I've seen many a blown bottom wnd on a 16v engine. 3 were on my cars, although that down to poor servicing on the part of previous owners and 1 was due to an oil seal that went.
good engines though if they have been looked after. |

i think they will only go due to neglect mainly. mine is on 130k btm end now, and still regularly accepts the limiter within fault...poor oil circulation down to dirty or old or low oil will not help at high revs.
so keep it clean, keep it mean! |

The biggest trouble with the cars is being cheap. You get fuckwits buying them who either don't know how to maintain a car, or just don't care. |
