tbh I dont see it causing too many issues but surely its there for a reason?
perhaps your better off getting a better second hand one for it and swapping them over. it is only a tenner after all. |

would it be the headshield thats rattling at 4000 rpm with my straight-thro de-cat exhaust?
(It always makes a metallic rattling sound just as it goes up thro 4000-4500 rpm, sounds pretty rally stylee but does make me wonder...) |

Ah rite, easily removed? necessary?
I'd be interested to hear what it sounds like without it, but now ive got pretty loud ticking/rattling noise from the head (in sync with the rpm) after a bit of motorway ragging session shes been good to me so far though...
Im thinking (/hoping) that its just the tappets, getting stuck or something, otherwise its gonna b valve/cam related |

Actually another thought was that it was a bearing in an aux. component such as the alternator, but after a listen again today it does sounds like its from the head |

probably a tappet.
removing the downpipe heatshield won't make it much louder if at all. My chammys one squeaks at 80 |

squeaks? haha cant imagine
I guess ill have 2 record a video to show u what i mean, it reminds me in a way of my friends Civic Type R when it hits v-tec (although obviously not QUITE so extreme), it just makes this weird fast rattle-hiss sound and goes loud as.
It could well b the heatshield shaking because of the resonance from the exhaust @ that rev range, (like the exhaust creates a certain bass frequency tone @ 4000rpm that makes it shake), it also happens when i'm really slowing taking it up and down through 4000-4500 rpm.
Ah well anyways
how can I tell if the clicking is an injector f**kin up? It hasnt really lost much performance since the ticking has come on, it has symptoms of both really |

i think she deservse a bit of respect
bein the age she is.
beins your 19 shes most probly had owners before you, whos ragged the fuck out of her, and shes gettin tired.
i see my 19 as an extention of my personality
my first car was a 19 16v ph1 , when i was 17 .
it was a bit of a shock doing 140 down the local bypass 2 hours after i passed my test!
then i bort another phase 1 valver
now im on my third and i dont ever think i will change |

is this about the the "tin foil" heat shield on the torpedo or is there a heat shield bolted to the manifold/downpipe as well? |

heat sheilds for the win!!
my 19 wont start after a run if i don't have the sheild on that protects the starter motor from the exhaust manifold's heat. |

Remove the bottom bulkhead one and you won't have any brakes after a run either. |
