I would guess that they were both the same thing.

'Compatible' sounds more technical.

'Ready' sounds like marketing spiel.

However just saying 'compatible' could mean that some adjustment/add-on/upgrade is necessary for HD to work. It sounds a little conditional. Not sure about this.

Well, your all wrong

HD Ready is the new standard, just about every LCD and most plasmas sold these days are HD Ready, basically meaning they can take a 720p and a 1080i singal via both analogue (component) and digital sources (DVI or HDMI)

Correct, HD Compatiable was being used before the standard was defined or for a device which only had a componant connection for HD rather then DVI/HDMI.

Its also used for upscaling DVD players which are not HD but are 'compatible' to the standard through the usage of a digital HDMI connection instead of analogue SCART.

In short, make sure the unit has the HD Ready logo and a HDMI connection (or two for future proof) for plain sailing and keep away from Sony as its overpriced tat who don't even manufacture their own flat panels - Samsung do.

HD ready is OK up to 32 inch screen size. (LCD)

You see no difference as they have enough pixels.

Anything bigger wait.

I've got a 32" hd tv, the difference between HD and SD is huge.
