hi everyone,
it was a beatifull sunny day in south wales and i managed to get out and mess with my car finally. i took the airbox out today to get rid of that heat sensor (or whatever it is called) inside the airbox that controls the temp. of the air flow into the filter .chrish told me it keeps the air temp at constant 20degrees celcius by allowing the hot air from the exhaust into the airbox by the help of a plastic flap .here we go

righty, yes thats the thing you remove.

The oil is oil from the breather and if its got that much after 2 months then thats a bit much, make sure the breathers are all perfectly clear and clean out the breather mtrap on the front of the block. I will get pics of this as the lagunas needs cleaned.

The pipe is a vacuum pipe, it will have gone into the thermostat bit on the airbox the bit your removing, its there so when you floor the throttle the hot air is closed off so only cold ait goes in for power.

What to do is cut this pipe back then sticka screw in it to block it off.

if that pipe was just dangling then it can cause running problems.

it would be very helpfull if you can put some photos chris,really dont have a clue what breathers are ?
instead ofripping the whole thing off ,i just took the metal hook that moves the plastic flap and bend it backwards with pliers(so that it does not have any contact with the flap at all .but the whole unit is still there (thermostat ,vacuum pipe )

i shut the flap and put some strong sticker tape to keep it shut . so shall i cut the vacuum pipe from the middle and stick 2screws on each hole or how? one end of the pipe goes to the throttle as you know and the other to the thermostat ,i believe i shall not remove it off the throttle end so i will take it off the thermostat end and stick a screw into it to block right?

see the hose you have in your hand, either cut it then block the hole or just stick a screw in it as is and tape it out the way.

breather sgo from the cam cover into the inlet manfiold/TB/air hose thingy. Any hose that goes to them is a breather.

so in that case can i take those 2 breather pipes going into the throttle(next to eachother they are) and spray some carb cleaner in them ?will that do the trick or is there another way chris?
i also want to move the air intake to another place (next to the fog light )so that it can take direct air in ,would that be a good idea ?

yes on both accounts.

You need to support the extra air intake, I find cable ties to be the best thing for well everything.

ok and one last question chris ,am i taking the pipes out the throtle end to spray the carb cleaner or both sides and give it a proper clean .the second idea sounds more logical to me but would like you to confirm that too pls.

will use cable ties for the intake too ,do i need extra filtering(to keep the stones,mud etc off theintake ) or just stick the air intake pipe by the side of the fog light where it can take direct air?

nah just spray through it into the manifold. it might be a bit tricky to start after but don't worry.

No extra filtering needed.

Just watch out for big deep puddles with a low air intake.

right have sorted the little pipe with a screw and cable tied it by the airbox housing .does it look allright to you chris ?

now after that i freed the air intake pipe from its housing behind the bumper and seen that the pipe was getting the air from a hole underneath and obviously it was not pressurized air now i am trying to find a better place for the intake pipe where it can take direct and pressurized air .i was thinking of cutting a round piece of the plastic shield underneath and stick the pipe out from there and secure it to the plastic shield with a few screws/nuts .what do you reckon chris ,any better ideas ??

theres 3 places the cars can get air as standard, in the rad surround, on the front slam panel below the passenger headlight or from the passenger side inner wing.

Which ones yours?

I would imagine under the headlight?

Is that right?

the best one is the rad surround type but the headlight one is the next best.

It does ok for air really.

But you can mount the tube after extending it into the fog light hole after you remove the fog light.

I wouldn't recommend mounting it in the wheel arch or to low down due to water ingress trouble, its a rare problem but one you can do without

so whats going to happen to my fog light chris ?i was thinking of nearby the foglight as there is a plastic shield sort of thing there but i think i will have to cut or remove that plastic shield if i want real cold air ,
what would be the material to make the extension with ?

get down to B&Q and look for plumbing pipes to use for air ducting.

bin the foglights, only poofs use them anyway.
