Stuck the airbox on, not got a new filter element so I went out without an element in the airbox.
1st thing, its a lot quieter, idles silenty its quiet a lot until you nail it at which point it gets a tad better still not the way it should in my book sound.
Anyway the highly technical test involved driving about and passing known reference points.
T'was slower.
Now I know there was no filter element but that shouldn't have caused that much turbulence to cause an obstruction, and the old hatch ran without an kit or box and was bloody rapido.
So the IK has been refitted.
i will buy an element for it and repeat the test but I doubt I will bin the IK.
Its nice having the proper airbox if I want to concours or sell the car though.
Heres some pics
yes I know the accel cable isn't routed properly for the stock airbox fitting.
this is staying for the moment, I will need to try a heatshield or something with it.

bear in mind this is in a 19 not a clio where the airbox is a good bit closer to the inlet manifold and radiator and the clio bay does run hotter. |

to add differences in running of my car is noticeable with and without an ik too...but what i mean is, once or twice now been driving and the car had been feelin sluggish, discover my ik had actually come out of the rubber trunking so it was suppin air stright into the inlet without going via the ik and heat shielding i have...so it was suckin in hot engine-bay air...made a difff! happened twice to prove it.
i have a section of air con ducting, about 6 inches in diameter, which i have completely enclosed the ik in, with the opening behind the headlight ...so it is as far away from engine as poss...it does really help a std ik. i did have the ducting turning down right down to the floor of the bay, like behind the fog light, but shortened it after flooding and fear of hoovering up puddles. works fine just behind the headlight...will get a pic for u.
good test chris...hopefully sorts a lot of grey areas out. |

on the cossie we made a proper heatshield effort, in a cosie bay theres no much room for the massive RS500 Ik anyway, that was ducted properly.
Yes Richard the engine will get cleaned properly atr some point.
I was gonna make a bucket fed IK but I can't be arsed tbh.
How is your IK mounted into the air hose JB? I got a metal ring so they can bolt solidly to it.
The old rapid hatch never had a filter on it, just the hose into the bay, I stuck some mesh over it to keep out stones etc but the thing was the quickest stocker I have been in even when the bay was hot. |

the end of the IK goes into the hose and a jubilee clip holds it on... |

now I realise how big that standard air box is thought it was just my engine bay was small. lol, its masive. surely putting an IK in must help with air flow and heat disipation in the bay. |

Richard thats not clean thats very tackily nedded up and looks it!
IK I have has a metal ring in the pipe and the IK is clamped over that ring.
Yeah its bloody huge, the filter itself is quite small inside the box. |
