how money do you want to spend?

decat is defo cheapest/easiest job for £/bhp,

cud do somethign to the induction altho the std box is good...maybe a replacement filter as ppl always bang on about....i have gone for a piperX induction kit which i have kinda shrouded from the engine by enclosing it in aircon ducting...not just a cold feed(which i think do bugger all) its completely covering...so in fact its just like a ....oh.....STD AIRBOX!!! this cost me 80 odd quid! but u can prolly find cheaper ones on ebay

if u wanna spend a bit more...get soem cams...can get regrinds for 160 quid....this is not toooo expensive and makes a nice difference...not huge, but noticable coupled up with the decat and ik..

more money?....get the head off...squeeze some larger valves in there, i believe someone has squeezed 34mm inlets in there, std size is 30mm on the 1.8...then while your at it could get the ports seen to. again its all down to how much money u want to throw at it.

more money??....throttle bodies...costs loads but sounds awesome but good gains coupled with all the above and maybe now would be a good timew to get a proper striaght thru exhaust.

or of course the ultimate has got to be forced induction....turbo or supercharger.

after all this you could get it chipped to maske the most of the mods (TBs need new management anyway)

or......initrous oxide. this, if setup correctly, can be the best £/bhp mod ever! esp if u do it DIY as opposed to payin for a full kit. check out www.nitrous.info very good site, as pointed out by chet in techy 'nitrous FAQ'

Very Happy
Ive got the K&Ni already, thinking of taking the head off of my old ph1 [chance to paint rocker cover] never done it before but it seems straightfoward ,how much can i do to the head? or shall i just send it away 4 gas flow, polish, mabee a skim to up the compresion?.....bigger valves u say......now that sounds cool Cool Cool , can they change angle's aswell?
throttle bods......no.Turbo......no supercharge now that does sound sexey i had one of those on my old 67 camero Laughing Very Happy who would i see about that? i dont think i'll be able to do 11's on the 1/4 though that took 480bhp to do that, and i was on street tyres Rolling Eyes oh to be young again Rolling Eyes any ways thanks for the imput and if anybody has any CHEAP bits that i may be tempted with PLEASE let me know....................CHEERS

Hit the button before i was finished there...

Any sort of forced induction is gonna be a waste of money so forget that.

Set of cams and some nice headork at it'd make a good difference

yeah JB's list is quite good.

If you want a decent road engine then a shift to 2litres is prob the better bet.

If you want all out revability then the 1.8 is where to go but it won't drive nice.

I miss large capacity yank tanks. Stuck a ford racing 460 motor into a 69 stang for a boy. That fair shifted.

I love the laziness of them.

Well thanks chaps for the imput,i think i know where im going now.
For the short term it will b ....D-cat.... mag leads...ngk plugs ... FSE ...and mabey advance the timing, feed back on the later would be welcome.
Then i'll whip the head off the ph1 get it skimmed..polished and ported, then get some cams....what ones im not sure yet,i dont want them to larey, but a tad more guts from 2000 up to the limiter would be nice.
When i come to the cams, should i change the followers and guides?
vernier pullys...then get it mapped out ..............would u say thats the best way to go, and have i missed somthing?

Still think Supercharging would be nice, even just for the Wrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!

leave the FSE

Cams to increase the pull from 2 grand, doesn't work like that unless you time them in yourself.

As for the head, if your getting a proper job done then 3 angle valve seats, new guides and maybe even new valves.

i'd retain but clean the existing followers.

Decat is the best 1st mod really.

Thanks Criss, i'll spend the saving of the FSE on some nice new front disc's and pads.
Would i have to use higher octaine fuel if i advance the timing [98] to compensate for when the cpu wants to run lean? or won't it matter?

Also ..sorry bout the spaceman thing ....had a shit day......Have u heard the one about 2 cows in a field ?....................1st cow go's Mmooooooo!

The second go's......"I was gonna say that !."

why do you want to advance the timing?

Are you going to waste perfectly good money on a new sensor?

Don't bother.

the only time to advance the timing is when the cars being mapped.

Otherwise the extra timing you put in will just be pulled back by the ECU anyway.

Just use normal unleaded.
