well on monday I finally started the job of doing the head gasket ont he meg.
stripping

head off

the small hole at the front is the main oil feed to the head, this is where the gasket was leaking from and you can see it had gone into the waterway slightly.

gasket, as you can see its in a poor way

inlet manky and oily from a leakign cam cover gasket when we got it about 2 years ago.
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20head%20gasket%2007.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
stat housing and alt bracket, they are on a trolley as they are abotu to get cleaned
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20head%20gasket%2008.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
cleaned up, much cleaner. Now I was going to port the head etc and clean up and smooth the inlet manifold to make it pretty but the car was a total bastard to me and it just pissed me off, even more so when amber and I were in the boot then close dit and the rear screen smashed!
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20head%20gasket%2009.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
inlet gasket on the inlet manifold, note plenty of cleaence.
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20head%20gasket%2010.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
same gasket on the head, hmm not exactly what you want is it!
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20head%20gasket%2011.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
anyway put the head back on and as expected it started up 1st turn of the key. No leaks and it pulls far better now.
Amber then needed the car and so the service waited to yesterday afternoon
old filter on the left came out of my sky blue 1.4 19 when we first got the megane, it was clean then (had done abotu 5 miles in the 19).
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20service%2006%2001.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
old plugs again came from the 1.4 (again 5 miles if that in the 19)
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20service%2006%2002.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
new cambelt
[img:378:567:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20service%2006%2003.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
pulleys cleaned and new alt belt which isn't listed for any megane, you can get the ps pump belt but not the alt belt, you have to use a slightly longer (715mm opposed to 713) one from another model!
[img:567:378:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20service%2006%2004.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]
all the belts fitted
[img:378:567:f2667c6e67]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/meg%20service%2006%2005.jpg[/img:f2667c6e67]

also had to slap some paste on the exhaust, and there cat heatshield had corroded and was rattling so knocked the last bit of weld off. |

cambelt cover just goes on after the belts are all fitted just as easy as before.
thats also the only way to do it on 16V's. |
